Fan Speed meter on LED

Did anybody else notice that it looks like there's place on the LED panel that can display the fan speed or the air conditioner? I circled in the picture where I'm talking about. If you look closely in good lighting, you can see the image of it, but it never is illuminated.....

It works in my car all the time...

Do you use the AUTO setting for climate control? It also does not seem to be showing the Ambient temperature (using the AMB button) or the climate control set temperature..

US cars don't have the climate control option, just Japan, Australia, and Euro-spec models.

So there is no led display for the fan speed or temperature in US spec cars...

Oh well - I guess you know the fan is blowing... So why do you need the LED??

US spec cars have the fan speed **** which you turn to increase or decrease the intensity of the blower. The rest of the world gets + and - buttons which change the speed of the fan and also cause the lcd bar gauge to increase a step.

Is there some US regulation that forced mazda to change that for our cars? It seems like a strange thing to do for one version of the car.

Cost. That electronic climate control gizmo is expensive and there was a serious push on in the USA to keep the entry level base price as low as possible as the FD was roundly criticized for being too expensive.

I don't have any problem with rotating the **** to turn the fan up or down, or looking at it to see what position it is in. Maybe if it had a true thermostat with the ability to set it at a desired temperature it might be another story.

I have the climate control, set it to the temp you want and dose it all it's self, fan display go's up and down AC comes in and out etc. your not missing much. After all it's not rocket science to adjust the temp or fan speed.

I think they had to balance costs for the various markets... the rest of the world also got the automatic headlight washers, but we get the tire pressure sensor system standard. We also pay far less for the '8 than the rest of the world, so while I wish it had auto climate control, I can live without it considering.

A friend of mine has a yellow 04, her display did the same thing one time.....here in FL I could understand the heat...but the dealer told her it was just bad software in the radio, the replaced it and it was fine.

Can our 8's tell us the temp inside of the car? Not AMB...but the actual temp inside the car? It would be fun to see what the difference is between the outside and inside air temp when using the AC.

IF you have climate control, the fan icon indicates you are in 'auto' climate control mode, where the fan speed is handled by the CC for you.
