Factory Order ?

I'm doing a special order from the factory and was curious as to how many miles others, whom had ordered there's from the factory, had on the odometer when they picked theirs up as a benchmark and how long it took to get the car. They're telling me it may be August before mine comes in. The reason I ask is they are also looking to see if there are any similar cars outside the state and if they find one I want to be able to say "OK, so long as it shows up with no more than XX miles on it I'll take it" I want a BRAND NEW one, not one that had some @$$hole like myself took for a real rough 20 mile test drive.
Thanks in advance.

What are you looking for and where are you located? You can use the inventory search at MazdaUSA.com for yourself and find your own car. I find it hard to think there is not the exact thing you want someplace - there are TONS of them on dealer lots. Keep in mind lots of the stuff can be added to any car (the wing, the appearance package, the rotary stuff, CD changer, etc). Just get the color and the ports/touring/grand touring and transmission and the rest you can add later (from a discount Mazda parts place).

Getting one direct from a dealer like you want that has 20-30-50 more of them sitting there will net you a better deal that a special order.

When most dealers swap caps, they send a low pay employee in the car they are giving up, then have them drive your new one back. If they are not doing a swap, they send 2 in a used/demo car and 1 drives it back. In either case, you end up with more miles on the car and someone else driving it however they want. And they will charge you for this. Some may go get it on a flat bed, but that is not cheap either.

My '04 RX-8 had 4 miles on the odometer when I purchased it. That is reasonable considering the car must be driven short distances to get it on and off the boat. A special order should not take that long. I was told 3 months by a salesperson just the other day. As others have said, your dealer should be able to find a car fitting your specs within a reasonable distance.

And ya gotta have faith that those transporting the car will take good care of it. If you can't do that, pay the price to have it shipped on a roll-back to your dealer. Be prepared to pay dearly for that service.

Factory Order ?

Well they found one coming off the boat but they wanted to charge me an addition $1000 to send it here instead of it's original destination. I guess I'll just be waiting.

I had 2 miles on my car when I picked it up. Anymore than 5 and I'd suspect it had been test driven- which, when you order car, is unacceptable.

When I ordered my car it took 4 weeks to get here, but it was not the one I ordered so I wouldn't take it. The dealer had to order another one and it took about 3 weeks to arrive. It had 4 miles on the odometer

Mine had 4 miles on it. Build date 04/12/04, drove it off the lot 10/02/04. I didn't even test drive it.

I factory ordered an RX-8, because there were none left with the option combination that I wanted. Supply is also starting to get scarce in my area as well.

Unfortunately Mazda said they were going to re-start production in mid-February (read separate thread about the paint-shop fire at the Mazda production plant), but so far none of the cars on my dealers order-list have even had a VIN assigned (a VIN is assigned when a car is scheduled on the production line).

They are still estimating June for my vehicle. I ordered it on February 2.

Full production is supposed to resume in mid-April. In the meantime they supposedly are using another production facility's paint shop to do the RX8's, although I have yet to see any action to confirm this has actually started.

I'm at over 40,000 a year later and have 0 mechanical problems. Only complaint is my tires wear out too fast =)

Mine had 7 miles on it. I got it the same day it came off the truck, however, the sales manager had to "check it out" as it was the first RX-8 at the dealership.
