Some will use an extended warranty more than others... Rather be safe than sorry.

$1400 can buy several taillights (gaskets really) and sunvisors. save your money for the rainy day.

I never bought extended warranty on mine, and I'm about 30k miles away from the 100k mark...only problems I've had after my warranty ended was weak engine mount (like most people have had), and one of my o2 sensors died...which was no big deal.

Going to see how far I can go during these next 30k miles before I have to pay for a major repair...

My extended warranty just ran out today (60k miles). While in it, I got a replacement coolant reservoir for a malfunctioning sensor. I think I also got the wireless receivers replaced in the trunk and doors (can't remember if it was still under the old warranty at the time or not).

I am not sure on the numbers, but I don't think I fully utilized the warranty (Mazda TotalCare)... maybe threw a few hundred away on it in total.

Other non-extended warranty repairs (from memory in reverse chronological order):
Condensation in rear passenger tail light.
Broken sun visors.
Rattling moonroof. (never 100% fixed, but livable)
E-brake cover tab (twice).
Driver's seat plastic frame cracked.
Squeaky clutch engagement.
Fuel spillover when filling up (replaced tank)

All recalls done promptly.

Exactly. If they didnt make money on them, for the most part, they would never offer them.

The factory gaskets suck. I used silicone sealant and frost king foam tape on my taillights and they're probably good to go even if I drive my RX8 into a lake.

You just reminded me...I also had the condensation in tail lights problem, broken sunvisors, squeaky clutch, and busted center console cover ****. All were covered under TSBs/warranty at the time. I also snapped my parking brake cable once too, but that was just from being an idiot.

I'm noticing that one of my tails is starting to have the condensation/leakage problem again now. But again, these are cosmetic problems we're talking about here and nothing major. So far so good

Indeed; I have yet to have any significant mechanical issues.

I'm sure I jinxed myself just now.
