Extended vehicle warranty?
Hey everyone new rx8 guy here in atlanta just picked up an 04' with 85k 6 speed plain jane model no traction control.. I'm in love with my car i recently had an audi a4 1.8t 5 speed that was totaled and thats when i picked up the 8. I've been doing some homework on the forum and have seen that other than the engine the cars are pretty reliable.. so i started looking at some extended vehicle warranties. i found one for 2500 that has no limit to repairs, and it includes all engine components, tranny, steering, suspension, electrical, and tires if they blow or something like that.. i could either pay it over time or just pay it upfront.
what do you guys think? i figured with tax returns coming soon it might be a good investment to look into. any info is apreciated..

I said no to an extended warranty, but it could be useful if you deem it so. If you didn't know already you have a 8 year/100,000 mile warranty for the engines core components from Mazda. If you don't think that's enough for you then you could look into the extended warranty. I'm sure you can find some threads that talk more about this.

Just make sure you research the warranty company before you hand them your money. Make sure they actually pay out claims, and that you find a mechanic willing to work with them to go through the hoops that they have in order to service your car.

In addition to what BC said be sure you read the warranty very well, see exactly what it covers. They usually do not stop at just "engine" they will list what general parts they cover. Most of the time they list it like "pistons, crankshaft, etc, etc" in which case you would be SOL. Just make sure they cover a rotary engine in writing and not just their word.

well i spoke directly with one of their customer service/ sales people i guess over the phone, before i even pointed out the car was a rotary they said, it covers all engine components of a rotary for 48 months or 50,000 miles.. i am aware of the mazda warranty but since mines an 04 wouldnt it be voided? i mean i currently have no issues with it she rides really nice i just dont know if it would be a good thing or a bad thing to get.. when the engine fails is it usually repairable in a rebuild? and if so how much would i be looking at in $ damage.. thanks for the imput

Well, since you already bought the car, lets rephrase the question so that its easier for you to make a choice on this subject:
What costs more:
A single engine replacement
The warranty
Chances are, your engine is going to fail.
You're going to have to pay for it one way or another.
If you are 100% sure your warranty company is going to pay for an engine replacement, and the warranty costs less, then get it.
The real follow up question is then, which will happen first:
Will the engine fail
Will the warranty run out
Making a rotary engine fail is very, very easy.
People do it all the time. Just don't do any ignition system maintenance.
You could make your engine fail before the warranty period ended, but you would have to be 100% sure that they are going to cover the engine replacement before your engine failed.
