Exhaust

Exhaust
I just purchased a 2005 GT 6 speed. The 4206F recall had not been preformed but will be done on Friday. Since I'm new to the rotary engine my question has to do with the exhaust. Originally I thought the car was misfiring, it still might be, so I ask does the exhaust send out a puff of exhuast with each turn of the engine? You can hear it and feel the extra burst of exhuast every few seconds. Am I crazy or is this wrong?
thanks!

hey Samaroo, welcome to the addiction.
Extra burst of exhaust? Nope, that's definitely not standard on an rx-8. Can you explain it a little more?
Are you seeing smoke? Could just be your car misfiring which should be taken care of by the 4206F recall if the ignition coils are going bad. (or spark plugs)

???
As the engine runs the flow from the exhaust is steady then every few seconds you hear and can feel (hard to explain but what seems like a PUFF, then back to normal flow of exhaust then again a PUFF). I know it's strange, but if it was misfiring wouldn't I notice that in loss of power...none of that going on.

exhaust flow is pretty constant.
PUFF, then back to normal, then PUFF? Clogged cat maybe?
and yes, either bad coils or clogged cat would result in some loss of performance.
Is it maybe just the exhaust backfiring as your'e shifting that your'e hearing? That can happen with quick shifts at high RPM's

The only time I notice it is when the car is sitting at idle. It is the same at start up and then after a drive. There is no smoke associated with it. I'll mention it when I drop it off Friday at the dealer, if I am missing some power I sure have not noticed it.

sounds like a miss fire, loading up and clearing up,misfires not always happen under power, ive seen them only at idle as well, once you start to rev up the computer compensates for its air fuel delivery,.at idle its got to be dead on,any little hickup will cause possibly what you are hearing,or like jedi said could be bad coils, too,it may be solved when the recall is performed

Huge hole is huge
Every single car I've ever owned has caused this except my RX-8 *Then again, all my cars have been 80's cars...haha* So yeah, I'd say you should be good with the coils swap.
