Is everyone happy with their automatic?

"0-60 = 7.8 sec" sounds encouraging. Not real fast but I could live with it. I've heard horror stories of the times being up in the nines. Since the 7.8 is calculated, not measured, I'm anxious for a major car magazine to verify the 0-60 times.

I hope someone gets some information on it. The additional 50 HP would come in handy.

It'll definetly be worth having extra 50 HP, but what's the point if engine can't last long. Now, maybe Supercharger would be better? Or maybe turbo on Rx8 wont be same as turbo on Rx7?

Having driven my Blue RX-8 for a month, I'm glad I purchased the automatic. Living in Los Angeles, I'd have been changing gears every few feet most of the time with the manual. Everything is a compromise and the 6sp would have been punishment in my environment. I do miss using a manual, the rare times I drive a canyon road, but that's less than 1% of my driving.
But...If you live in a non-congested area or are full of youthful energy...get the manual. Driving a manual is fun.

I am extreemly happy with it! I wouldn't have it any other way. The paddle shifters get tons of comments from passengers. It is a boon around town when having to deal with the traffic jams.

My 2 cents - I bought the A/T because the traffic in DC is horrible. I used to get leg cramps in my RX7 sitting on the beltway during rush hours. It is an excellent compromise. I smile every time I get in AND out of the car. Since I am not looking to dust people off the starting line the slower start up is not a big thing to me. And if you really need to pick up speed fast (entering a highway from a ramp) using the tiptronic will get the job done. And as has been pointed out by others, once this car is moving it is a true rocket. I really like the ability to flip between full auto and manual mode on the fly. I call my car NATE because I feel like evil-in-car-nate when I'm driving it. (Ok, it's a bad pun, sorry.)
