Here's a question regarding the Renesis and EPA regs:
If the engine burns oil in a standard mode (i.e. when it's working properly), how is it able to pass the EPA testing standards? I'm out here in California, which has (from my understanding) the tightest controls on particulates, and was just wondering this.

It burns extremely little oil. Seriously, people here are seeing oil consumption of 1 quart every 2000 miles or less. There's plenty of new piston engines that use that much oil. The oil consumption is so miniscule that it's simply not a factor - the Renesis is actually very clean, easily passing the strictest emissions tests.

my dads porsche carrera 4 s goes through a quart every 1500 miles. but then again, he drives it like its supposed to be driven and not like most other people drive their cars.

 

Gord96BRG is correct that the oil usage is too little to make any difference. Oil is just another hydrocarbon and the converter, when hot, will burn it up.

Yamaha actually had smog legal 2 stroke (HEAVY OIL USAGE!)motorcycles & water Vehicles with converters for years. The oil was only a problem on the units that were not driven hard or long enough to get the engine and converter hot. That plus the use of some of the junk oils (that somehow passed the certiifcation tests) caused the converter to get plugged up.
