the FD3S, or 3rd generation RX7. sold in the us/canada from '93-95 and in japan/europe up until 2003.

oh, and in regard to aerodynamics... the RX8 is a rolling brick of aerodynamics. the FD is more aerodynamic than the RX8 is, i would also even put money that the FC3S was even more aerodynamic than the FD was. styling trumps technology at times and they build what think will sell, not what can run 200+MPH with efficiency.

Wrong, the RX-8 has a CD of 0.30 and the FD has a CD of 0.33.

Good input 9K. The RX8 has such a bad stigma it's not even funny false claims galore and opinionated assumptions. Just makes this car seem way worse than it is. I've had people suprised I drive it everyday with 100k+ miles on it. Surprisingly though FC does have a lower Cd. than the FD but not the FE/SE3P I found varying information from good and bad sources but either way you toss it the FD loses to both the FC and SE in terms of Cd.

Cool video

FD lovers are like a cult, LOL. They worship the car like a god.

The one thing that always gets my attention about the FD is the overall design. It is such an exotic looking sports car. It doesn't look like a 20 year old car to me at all.

The FD is timeless and definitely way before it's time. I was in high school when the FD came out and I used to drool over my bosses red 93' FD every single day at work. But I think people are either blind due to love and loyalty or a little ignorant about them. Sure they can be beasts but in stock trim they are barely faster than a stock 6 speed NA RX-8 and they came with their own list of short comings and reliability issues. And for what a clean, lower mileage stock FD goes for now, you can get a basically new S2 2010 R3 that is way more car for the money IMO and would trounce a stock FD in just about any category.

Sure the FD can be made sickly fast but so can just about anything can be with enough money. But give me $30,000.00 and I will take a nicely modded S2 R3 over a 500WHP money pit FD any day of the week. But I can understand yearning for an FD, we all have a soft spot for cars we have loved over the years.

I'm a fan of the NA 20B swap from the mazda cosmo, and building a NA screamer. Just my 2 cents

@9krpm Why the R3? Don't the S1's have more aftermarket support?

Excellent vid. I love my 8 but I have not had the pleasure of driving an FD. As long as it is fun to drive, who gives a shyt really. Fun is fun. There are costs associated with either vehicle and then it just boils down to personal preference really.

Your money do as you see fit.

An R3 with good coilovers, wheels, and tires are all you need to have a ton of fun. And as for the aftermarket, well just about anything you can do to an S1 can be done to an S2.

...and the R3 really is noticeably better than other RX-8s, stock to stock.

You guys are just making me feel so good about my purchase back in October! Not that driving it daily doesn't, I'm always grinning when I get home.

And when I bought it, it only had 8,600 miles on it. Now it has 12,800...
