He is going to try his best to get Mazda to cover the repairs and give me a new engine.
so now its in the hands of someone higher up. if it comes back wrong he steps up again etc

Cuz dealership don't like warranty repairs, especially big warranty repairs like replacing engines.

They rather have 30 customers doing oil change than 1 engine replacement.

Ok i heard back from Mazda today and they are going to replace my engine as long as I buy a new OEM cat from the dealership which is over $1000. My current cat is a high flow after market thing that was a lot lot less than a new one from the dealer so I bought it. Now I am stuck having to buy one from the dealer anyway. Mazda said they will only replace my engine if I do this. It seems incredibly strange but i guess its worth it if I am getting a re-manufactured engine. They think the after market cat causes sporadic back pressure which is bad for the engine (which I'm sure has some validity) so those were the conditions for the replacement to take place.

Side note:
The original reason my cat wasn't replaced by them under warranty was that when they took it off they said it was hollowed out and given that they could not send it in to Mazda to inspect the replaced part or whatever. This was very strange because I did not hollow it out and they said there was no debris in my exhaust ANYWHERE. This was very puzzling I am not the original owner but i purchased it in 2005 and it didn't show any signs of this. My cat was replaced in march of this year and i had my ignition coils replaced around the 1st of the year. So i figured those caused my cat to flood but I still cant figure out why it was hollowed out. When I replaced my cat it was done at the shop I do all my work done at and my Dad's buddies with the owner. He showed me the bad cat after he took it off and sure enough it was hollowed out, completely clean, nothing in my exhaust at all. Strange

all exhaust systems create back pressure... its part of how the engine works...

That is BS, but $1,000.00 is better than $3,000.00 to $4,000.00. My dealer replaced my last engine at 96,000 miles with the catless mid pipe installed.

I would inquire as to what written warranty accompanies this new oem cat converter for a G. Not for the engine but for the cat itself.

on a rotary you want as close to 0 back pressure as you can get.

makes sense now that they didnt honor the warranty on the first CAT. completely cleaned out and you dont know how it got that way means the previous owner probably ran a broom handle through it.
