Engine Cover Grommets

When You Take Your 8 In For Oil Changes, Do The Grommets Ever Get Lost. I Have Lost 3 So Far. One In The Rear And 2 In The Front. They Are About 7.00 From The Dealer. I Am Seriously Thinking About Using Contact Cement On Them.

My dealer lost one of mine (I think). I noticed it when I got the car home after an oil change. I told them about it, and they replaced it free of charge. FYI, The engine cover never goes to the dealership now. There is absolutely nothing they could need it for, ya know? :D

Are you driving around without the engine cover? Or are you just saying you take it off before getting service? The engine cover is used to help airflow cool the engine.

see--i thought that too. BUT i've learned that in FL where it's already a gagillion degrees...it actually makes it cooler to not have it on.

But i still leave mine on bc i know if i take it off...i'll lose it. LOL.

^^ agree. I took off the engine and battery cover for a wiring project and it helped keep the bay a little cooler. But I wonder if "a little cooler" really makes a difference when your temp gauge reads 118!!

I would remove it too when you get to the dealership. Why don't you change your oil by yourself? If the mechanics keep losing the gromets, one day they might forgot to put the engine oil or change the filter

Yes, we are sure we put the oil in. The light was still on but that's because it takes a while for the oil to get into the engine. Your engine seized two blocks from the dealership because you were hot rodding it, so it is not covered by the warranty. :D

P.S. If you do decide to change the oil by yourself, keep all the receipts from oil and filter purchase and put a mileage number and date on the receipt. You will need this to prove that you maintained the car in case you need some warranty repair.

Four round rubber pieces shown in the TSB mentioned in swoope's post.
They're used to secure the engine cover to the engine.

Talking

It comes off before I leave my garage before a visit to the dealership, regardless of the reason for the visit. It goes back on when I get home. As for cooloer without it... dunno. Still hot as can be; FL summers. If I leave it off, I'll either loose it, or mess it up from being kicked around the garage (not really).

After each visit, and while still in the overhang of the dealership. I always pop the hood and check for missing components. Also take a look at the fluids to ensure they were all topped off. They better be; I'm paying for it! Just a little Quality Assurance, ya know?

Finally, I keep a terry cloth in the seatback pocket. Makes wiping greasee monkey pingerprints off the hood cake. They see that I care about my car that way, as well.

You can treat the grommets with liquid soap-that way the cover slides on and off very easily without disturbing the grommets.

When you get the TSB replacement grommets they don't fall off anymore.
