Version L and later can be identified by pumping the brake pedal fast - 20 times within 8 seconds while the ignition is on (not running).
The oil gauge needle will sweep after the 20th pump.
This also resets the ECU somehow and it has to 'learn' your driving style again. It may produce less miles per gallon during the learning phase (maybe one tank).

ECU Version?
Hello all~
I just bought RX-8 and joined this club...
I was reading some articles here and found out that there are different versions for ECU and the latest one is 'M' version...
How can you check my car's ECU version?
My vin number is JM1FE17N340127494...
If it is not 'M' version... What should i do?
