Even a half hearted search attempt will probably show hundreds of threads on mpg. But we where all new and excited about our 8's at one time.

Now, how can I boost my power on my new RX8 with a limited budget? Turbonator

I thought for sure my window sticker said I had more power than I can feel !!

Can I use regular 87 oct fuel??

What do you mean I have to check the oil? And what is that white stuff on the dipstick?

Etc, etc, etc, etc,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,,,

No one here has to help anyone else. No one has to respond to a post they find rediculous or old or have seen 1000000 X. There are plenty of other folks here who want to help so don't feel like the burdon us all on you. It's not Regardless of how many forum surfing experts there are here, there are that many more folks who've never posted on forums and are unfamiliar with said rules. They have this new beautiful car and are moved to find a place where others share in their excitement. What a cold-water shock the responses can be here.

The same result of encouraging a new RX8Club.com member to search can be accomplished without lecturing or bitch slapping someone. Find 1-2 threads to place into a reply, indicate the key word you used in the Search, and let them know that's how you found those links. They'll get it and use it next time they have a question. Teach a man to fish.

I love it when a noob searches and revives a dead thread and then people bitch about those zombied threads.

The easiest solution to this problem is to make a newbie forum. Throw up a few of the most commonly asked sticky's, and make the entire area a flame free zone.

People who post repetitive threads or reposts just get them moved to the noob section.

Noob flames complaints stopped, forum clutter stopped.

It's safe to say that almost %90 of the members on the RX8Club is new to rotaries since this car has reached a wider audience in one year, than the RX-7 did in the god-knows how many years it's been in production.

I was a newb when I joined this club in late 2003. I didn't know a damn thing about rotary engines. You know what though? I didn't start a new thread everytime I was worried or had a question regarding the car. Instead, I searched and learned. If %90 of the members decided that they are much too important of a person to have to search and start a new thread on every damn little question, then we would be searching for days for threads that actually have new ideas or products that make our car better. Things that actually matter.

My highschool teacher have always said that spoon-feeding you the information is not going to make you a better person, nor remember. It is the process of actually looking for the answer that will help you. All the people that complain about us bashing on newbs, must be an only child. Learn to take responsibilty and take matters into your own hands, not cry for help the moment something goes wrong. The chances of someone on this forum that have already gone through what you did is very high. That's not to say you haven't stumbled across a problem that is new to us, but that is where the search feature comes into play. My time is very precious, but I can still afford 3 minutes out of my life to search. In 3 minutes I can figure out if the issue have been discussed before and if so, I can just add to that thread instead of starting my own.

Have any of you guys went shopping before? Imagine a grocery store or Wal Mart is the RX8CLub. You want to look for a particular type of potato or a particular type of jeans (in the case of this forum - you have an issue or looking for an aftermarket product to put on your car). How would you go about finding what you need? Do you walk inside the front door of either store and yell out "I HAVE A PROBLEM! I NEED POTATOES!!!" or "JEANS!!! I NEED JEANS NOW!!! WHAT'S YOUR OPINION ON SOME WRANGLER'S?!". That is how you guys go shopping isn't it? It must be, because that is how you are behaving in the forum.

I've always said this. either this or restrict new threads from newbies until like 50 posts or 2 weeks or something. that way, we can weed out those that just join the forum, don't bother to search, and just start a new thread.

I never understood why this is such a problem to do. Other forums do it.

like mugatu says "search" thats the best thing to do but you dont have to be an asshat like somepeople( masdamaniac) about it. i always do my research first but what if i want a second or third opinion on the matter..... thats what this place is for ithink. W/E all im saying you dont have to act like an ******* and make people regret signin on to the forums just cause you dont want to answer a stoopid question. there is a lil green arrow that when you press it takes you back to the previous page use that mazdamaniac it will help you look less STOOPID.

Agreed. And your school teachers showed you how to find information the first time around. From there you were prepared to move forward on your own.

Do you hang around those places waiting for the opportunity to lurch out from behind a produce display to bitch out the tool who dared to ask someone to point them in the right direction?

Actually there are plenty of high end retailers that come to YOU, the Customer, to see how they can offer assistance. One wouldn't expect that at Wal-Mart, nor would they expect a tongue lashing for asking a simple question either. All it takes is a gentle nudge in the right direction and someone can make their way from there.

Easy solution: When anyone clicks on the "NEW THREAD" button they're directed first to a page that says "IT IS HIGHLY LIKELY THAT THE TOPIC YOU ARE ABOUT TO POST HAS ALREADY BEEN DISCUSSED THOROUGHLY IN AN EXISTING THREAD. CLICK HERE TO BE TAKEN TO THE SEARCH PAGE; IF A SEARCH ON YOUR TOPIC YIELDS NO USEFUL RESULTS, YOU MAY THEN CONTINUE TO POST A NEW THREAD. THANK YOU FOR SEARCHING FIRST!"

Actually he didn't. He said go look it up in the library or on the internet.

Yes I do.

You do realize we are not in a "high-end retailer" and we are not "customers". We don't pay anything (unless you feel like donating) to be on this forum. This is an online community where we read up on matters related to the RX-8. I don't want to dig through a million threads about low gas mileage, or how the RX-8 sucks in the snow because that person didn't buy winter tires. Is that really all that much to ask for? I like everything organized. Not finding a thread here and there about the same issue. I sometimes feel like I am in a kindergarten class, where mods are like grown-ups picking up after the kids when they are done playing with their toys. No wait. They are taught to pick up after themselves and keep their classroom tidy...what a novel idea that is!

RX8Club is not high-end. No disagreement there.

The Search function, used correctly, will save you from such blasphomy.

When you're crowned Mod of RX8Club you can run things as you see fit. We will respectufully abide by the rules of said regime.

There is a nice variety of online forums to participate in, RX8 and rotary related specifically, that you may find more palatable. Until it is deemed against forum rules to post a new thread, you may continue to find yourself frustrated with the community participants on this one.

Doesn't work. The fundamental problem between the whole noob/searching phenomenon is that people don't read. Either they never learned proper reading comprehension, or they are just incredibly slow readers. Most forum sheep will see a long post (like rotarygod's for example) and only read a few brief sentences, ignoring the rest as filler. "Learn three things and start yelling" is their creedo.

worst thing i found in searching are the threads with 56 pages in em. yea, THAT helps ...
Whats bad about that? It means you've got an entire book of information to read through. I'd be far more upset if I just found a one liner that had little or no information in it.

If you really want to learn, the best possible thing to do is...

1) Set the forum (That your interested in...like technical or performance) to show "all" threads.
2) Go to the very first page that was ever started.
3) Start scanning thread titles and reading all the threads about the topic your interested in.
4) When your tired, mark the page # your on for later. Come back and continue.

On some forums, like contour.org, this can take weeks upon weeks of time. But by the time you've finished, you are now your own repository of knowledge and information.

Sure it takes time, but it's never a waste. Learning is NEVER a waste of time. It pays dividends far greater then the miniscule amount of time initally invested.

Well, some of us have to work quite hard at being an "asshat" because it doesn't come quite as naturally to us as it seems come for you.

Once again, bite me.

There - now you don't have to hit any little green arrows since it is on this page as well.

What the RX8Club.com needs is a 25 Most FAQ section and send people directly there when they signup for the forum.

Dude all we want here is get info, people like you make it harder for new people for no reason. i didnt go thru that cause i did my research before i got in the car, but i truly dont mind directing people to the right place if need it. i dont know what you do here but you should not take a place thats not yours, leave the judging to the people incharge and if thats you... then i feel sorry about the people that got to deal with you.

We should get a mod up in here.

I found this forum for about 3 or 4 months before I became a member, reading through a lot of old threads to know about the car. I was pretty much ready by the time I got the car, rarely even posting new threads because I did my research. I know there are some people who aren't likely to read through these old threads, no matter how often they may come up (i.e. gas mileage), so I don't mind trying to help a lil. However, there are a few posts that, "would never get old" such as gas mileage, because our mileage would never change. It is an issue that was, is, and will always be the same. Those don't need to be brought up again. If we could get all these issues out of the way, we'd probably have more intellectual or at least newer ideas and topics to discuss. We really need a newbie forum for the new people to not feel offended when we get to talking and so 'the regulars' can continue discussing new things... Searching is really the only way to really learn.

Sorry, I don't agree with this argument. If you have something new or deep you want to discuss, go ahead and start a thread. It never stopped Rotorygod from typing a tech report, which many of us study.

Briefly, I side with those who say people here are too harsh. I am sympathetic to the problem they are reacting to. But wailing on people for asking redundant or obvious questions is no solution.

This gets to the heart of it. I've been saying something like this since I got here. There actually IS a pretty good FAQ thread, but it's way too hard for the newbie to find, and I expect it's not complete (although what is there is very good).

Instead of fighting the eternal post/search battle, the most obvious questions-and-answers should be put front and center where they can't be missed. Not off in the corner somewhere with new people expected to hunt for them.

I read the all of the FAQ and most of the sticky's as well as the rules of conduct BEFORE I became a member. That way you know the deal before you even sign up. The search function does work! To not utilize it simply because you may have to read a little is no exuse. Nonsearchers=lazy!

yeah we all know that search works, and its obvious that it should be used, what i dont like is the way some aholes cause you cant call them anything else make all of us look like them by telling people off when all they had to do like MUGATU says: Search.(love that line). what im saying is if you dont want to answer somethin then dont, thats it dont call a noob idiot, dumbass etc etc cause they didnt search.
