OK, this has been mentioned in other threads but I think it deserves its own thread, especially for new owners like me. When I got my '8 the rear-view mirror was pretty low on the windshield and it blocked the apex on right-handed sweepers. It really bugged me and was distracting.

Then I happened upon a thread which mentioned that the (patented) mirror has two pivots: One on the windshield end and another on the back of the mirror itself. (I noticed today that the MR2 Spyder has the same type of mirror, I think.)

With a firm hand you can swing the whole mirror up significantly higher, or even to the left or right a bit, then readjust its angle for better rearward visibility. Problem solved! Check it out.

P.S. I have the Sports package, which is the same as the base model, i.e., no HomeLink. I haven't checked, but I hear that the Touring and GT models also have dual-pivot mirrors, although as I recall they're mounted higher to start with, too.

I cannot get my mirror to adjust upwards. Could someone please explain exactly how to do it (where it pivots exactly, etc)? I've put a good bit of force into it, but don't want to break the whole thing off. Thanks.

 

It has a pivot point right on the glass (pretty much) and another one on the rear of the mirror itself. I moved mine as high as it oculd go and it was finally out of the way.

Finally got it. I was trying to push the bracket on the glass upward. PIVOT - duh. Thanks, Genom.

 

The extremists among us might even be able to pivot the mirror out, turn it completely upside down and then pivot it WAY up toward the roof. I haven't tried this but I bet it would work on base/Sports cars. However, the night-time switch and the wide part of the mirror would be on the top.

For those with the HomeLink/compass features, the cable might be screwed up and the buttons and read out would be upside down and backwards.
