Drove new RX-8 Home tonight
Took delivery of my new RX-8 tonight. What a blast to drive. The car is Nordic Green with black cloth interior, touring package, and a few extras. I can't wait to drive it tommorrow. Meeting a friend for breakfast (Miata owner) who knew I was interested but not that I got one. Can't wait to see the expression on his face!! Already thinking about road trips. What a blast to dirve, big smile on my face!!! I liked it much better than the Honda S2000 and the 350Z.

Congrats! Nordic Green is an awesome color, almost tempted me away from Brilliant Black! I swear if the dealer's Nordic Green wasn't an automatic I would've picked that one.

nice
yea, I like the nice green that mazda put on the rx-8. Say i was wonderin, i plan on street racing mine when i get it in a few weeks, does it come with the stock 238 hp as advertised, is there more or is there less cause ive heard it from all 3 sides of the story. Just want to learn from the veteran driver. Ive ridden one during in a test drive and it seemed like when he kicked it down, he wasnt even at pedal yet and we were jetting. so yea whats the kick in it and the HP estimates?

If the question was "does it come with 238 HP" - then I don't think you're going to get one...
Either drive the car and be happy or sad based on if it's fast enough for you or not.
- or -
put your car on a dyno and see what you're running, and be either happy or sad based on a number.

No either way im satisfied with the car. There's a thing called "mods" that are improved parts that make your car go faster. Maybe youve heard of it i dont know. But I love the car and cant wait to drive one. HP isnt the main priority im lookin at this car, if it was then i wouldve gone some where else right? u guys are strict about street racing

I have the CZ stage 1 ECU 'mod' sitting on my bench right now waiting to be sent back to be updated to the 1.1 version, but thanks for the edjacashun and your excellent sarcasm. I feel more complete as a person after reading your reply.
If you are interested in modifying the car then there are several excellent threads on ECU updates (see the tech forum, one is stickied at the top, and also see the CanZoomer vendor forum) and such around. There are also numerous discussions about engine HP etc. along with dyno plots and numerous opinions on what the engine is actually making. General consensus seems to be that the engine definately does not make more than 238HP. I would recommend you do a search and/or browse around to insure your questions are not already answered in existing threads.
My point was: even the most veteran driver won't be able to tell you if it's got 238HP at the crank or not... only that it's a fun car to drive that handles very well indeed, which it sounds like you've already figured out.

sferrett,
how did you like the ecu mod while you had it in you're rx-8?
I been meaning to ask ya since you are a fellow sd rx-8 owner.
Was it's tuning suited ok being that san deigo is so close to sea level?
Thanks in advance for any replys

It made a noticeable improvement - especially over 5k rpms. There were a couple of bumps/dips in the power curve, although I had some bumps and dips prior to installing it also. I didn't have any issues with knock or anything like that, though.
The "L" reflash certainly made things smoother throughout the rev range (I took the CZ unit out before getting the ECU updated though, so I have not tried the L flash plus the older CZ mod) so I'm looking forward to getting the old CZ unit updated to their latest maps and such and having another go at it. I have not yet sent it back to them though.
Simon.

Thanks for the welcome everyone! Driving this car is more fun every day. I am going away for a few days and I am going to miss the RX. By the way I test drove the Honda S2000 and the 350Z. I am 6'2" about 200 lbs and I was cramped in the Honda. I didn't like the road noise, shift and clutch combination, after driving the Mazda. I let my friend with the Miata drive the RX today and he fell in love. The 350Z was just too jarring of a ride. I am so pleased. I also purchased the 100K max. extended warranty, what do you folks this of this, did I waste my $. By the way, I lurked on this list for a month before I bought. The information in the list is tremendous. I drive horses as well and belong to a list for that. More horses on this list, I just need one or two horses for the other!
