Yes, the drag area was at a high altitude like 3-7k feet, on a mountain.

No its a manual. This is a bad video. (he was actually doing 16's the whole time) I recall him telling me that he missed first gear in this vid.

Yeah, I agree. It's because of the high altitude of the drag area which made the 8 get high numbers.(low 16's) 3-7k feet above normal altitude. I know that the 8's are supposed to do mid 15's

They are mid 14 capable, under the right conditions. I would say 15 would be an average time. It's not a drag racing car, but still can do better than mid 15's on average.

At first, I was like "Cool, RX8's drag racing" and then i was like "WTF?!? 17 seconds?"

Thanks for posting the videos... but, who's the dumbass that built a drag racing track at that altitude? Any idea what the DA was that night?

17's... ugh.

Yeah, In El paso... its weird there is upper valley and there is lower valley parts of the city. Where I live is on the upper valley. It is very elevated where I live, the lower valley and lower to that is all mexico "border", I'm not sure if they have any drag near the lower valley but ill find out and I'll bring in some new vids... if there is. Rotary > Vtech.

Cool vids, drag racing is fun.

Here are two RX-8s with street tires driven by folks who are drag racing their cars for the first time:

And here's one of the same RX-8s beating a corvette:

well im the guy in the vids and to tell you the truth i was very surprised by my times
but not even the Mustang GTs were hitting high 14s, mid 15s at the most...i just talked to one of my friends that raced that night and said that everybody's time seemed slower than other days, he was more than a second behind his regular times, so either it wasnt the best conditions to race in or the timing system was off
and i agree , who the hell builds a strip at so high altitude, you can even see the lights from the city in the background
