The ledge under the door. The sill runs the length of the door opening. It's kinda like your door sill at home. That bit covers the distance from inside to outside of the house under the door.

The problem mentioned in this thread concerns the center garnish insert on the stock (black plastic) door sill - the silver plate with RX-8 embossed in the middle.

The accessory door sill replaces the entire black plastic door sill with fancier (i.e. more expensive) garnishes.

Lets clarify this -- it is not the actual door sill that is coming off -- it is the small RX-8 emblem in the middle of the door sill -- right

The actual door sill plate is not attached with tape -- it is attached with 10 to 12 clips that press down into the car body (checked my old door sills). The aluminum door sill plate accessory replaces the standard sill plate and does not use all of the clips -- it uses tape.

When the RX-8 emblem on the passenger side came loose from the door sill, I noticed that the emblem was too big to fit in the slot in the sill. So, I filed it down until it fit nicely into the sill and put it back using the original piece of double sided tape. After about two weeks it is still in place. I had to file away about an 1/8" from the longest dimension and a 1/32" from the shortest dimension.

Had the problem (and many others!), reported it to the dealer, not sure what they did, but it fixed the problem and have had no issues. Was thinking of the full door sil accessory type ones to stop shoe scuffing, but they charge about $500 for that here in Australia... what a rip off.

My door sill has been fixed. The metal emblem that says RX-8 on the driver's side door sill poped up on the right side. I removed the emblem with a heat gun, and I thought that the dealer would just replace the metal emblem - no so, they replaced the whole black plastic door sill which had the emblem on it already. They just popped the sill off with a little "crow bar" and snapped the new one on.

Thanks my10ae! Didn't think they would turn out that big, but sure shows the lifting. The pennies were not holding up the plate as it may have looked, they slid under without any rubbing.

when i took delivery my door sill was comming up, the dealer said he would fix it, and didn't..... then i had some other issues and again dealer said they woudl fix it and again did not.... first time was my fault cause i didn't check (i was so excited having a new car), second time i couldn't do anything about it cause i picked up the car after the sevice shopped closed. The door sill then got caught in the door and is now destroyed. I was wondering if anyone knows how much a new one will cost, and how much installation would be.

Thinthi,

It should be noted on your service orders. Don't pay for it, make them replace it for free!

nm found out

White gasoline is generally a clean and energetic fuel suitable for use in liquid fuel stoves. Availability is good in North America. In Europe and other parts of the world, availability varies. Usually, you can find white gasoline in Outdoor shops. An alternative to white gasoline is heptane which usually can be found in paint shops, hardware stores and similar.

They look pretty... but the turnoff for me is the fact that they are attached with double-sided tape.
Why could they not reuse the stock plastic sills' clips is beyond me.
Also, I have a feeling these might be a bit scratch-prone as well.

Only if you stumble into your car... Mine have been on for 6 months so far with no problems encountered. I have had numerous comments from friends on how good they look. So, it seems it was worth it for me.

Hey all guys. I made a fix for this problem, as well as identifying the cause of it in the first place. Check out my DIY:

Thanks for the DIY and for figuring out what the basic problem was. I'm gonna check mine to see if they are too long as yours were and if so, I'll do your fix.
