Dooo yooou knooow... who I am... I ARE ROTARY!
I've been busy lately, but wanted to let everybody know that since last saturday 9/16 I took the plunge and I've now offically joined the darkside. Converted from one of Honda's finest to Mazda. Woo HOO! +1 to the dysfunctional community. Rotary wannabe no more. Finally the is over.
MY06 White Water Pearl Mica Shinka.
I wish there was a way to have both an S2000 and an RX-8 as I will be missing the roadster from time to time.
But all is good now... for the rotary is here. Let the rotary madness continue!

I dunno. LOL actually I think it all started way back when watching Initial D a few years ago (notice: one jdm product promoting another subliminally). From there the rotary interest started snowballing to the point where now when I see Veilside's Fortune FD in Tokyo Drift and I go There's just something about dem 13b's....
That and I'm looking long term needs. 2 extra back seats, bigger trunk, less noisy roof, paranoia of soft top associated stuff, theft, ect.
Oh yeah also that car was a weekend warrior. Didn't get much miles on it. Felt the money could have been better spent, so lo and behold, got the crazy idea of an RX-8 as a DAILY DRIVER! Chevron is gonna love me even more.
So far it seems like it's a very good car. I would have bought this initially in 2004 had it not be for a lot of first year run problems that Mazda was addressing. So I opted for good ole Honda reliability. Can't go wrong with that.
But now curiosity has gotten the better of me... burning oil... what's that you say?

I also was thinking about switching to a s2k a little while back. Test drove one and liked it but I decided to keep the 8. Something about that rotary!
Enjoy your new 8!

Funny, sometimes it seems we have more S2000 fans here than RX8 fans.
I always liked the S2000, when it came out I was driving a Miata with mods and immediatly considered switching. But that soon faded. When I first saw the RX8 in '03 I was also stunned, but the appeal never faded as I expected. Finally bought one a year ago.
You may miss the convertible aspect every so often though, as I do.

I have always loved the RX8 when I was reading about it as a concept back in 2000, I still to this day can't believe that I own one. This is the first car I ever bought with my own money. I was thinking about the S2000 or the 350Z, I chose to go with my heart, I get a lot of idiots in civics trying to test me when I drive esp the 2 door coupe si

Unfortunatelly the S2000s don't come with 9k rpm redline anymore.
By the way, VTEC / or i-VTEC (Acura RSX) are nice. A friend of mine has an old 95 integra GS-R ..... VTEC power baby!!
Although the 8 has it's own version of VTEC.......... at about 5k and then again at about 7.2k RPM>......wind up that rotary and you won't be dissapointed....

Congrats! One of the first members on this board to get the RX-8 switched from the S2K back in the Spring of '03. It was a guy from the UK living in Japan. I believe his words were the something like "The RX-8 is f...ing awesome!"
Enjoy!
Enjoy!

But meh! I COMPLETELY forgot about the 5000rpm VDI! Ohh, thanks for reminding me.. :-O

If you do drive spiritedly or on autocross courses you will probably miss the hard edged S2K...but the RX-8 is no slouch.
Enjoy your new 8...I miss mine...I traded my 8 in at the beginning of the year for a more family-ish car.
That silky smooth rotary should keep you happy for a long time.
