I think it is quite tail happy for a car that's not crazy powerful. Two of my cold (but dry) test drives started with the tail sliding out quite a bit just turning out of the lot (different occasions, cars etc). DSC was on and it or my countersteer kept it going. Yes, they were almost 90 degree turns, no I was not even close to flooring it.

It's a very fun handling car but not every rwd is that tail happy. E.g. I've owned two e46 bmws, both have more planted backs. Granted those cars don't turn as well as the 8. The dsc in the 8 should be left on (except on autox/track) it's not nearly as intrusive/bothersome as the bmw version.

I'm beginning to wonder how some of you people drive. The roads out by me have a lot of very sharp curves (a lot winding on hills), several at 90 degrees. I can do them at 30-35 MPH easily (the exception being the one in the "town" area where it is posted a much lower speed limit through town so I have to slow down much more) including on wet pavement or pouring rain and have never had one problem with it slipping or anything. Feels like it is glued to the road. Other cars I have driven I can't do that in very easily since they feel like they have less control and I need to go slower, like maybe 25.

Also curious as to why somebody would be going around a curve like that in first gear unless they were at a complete and total dead stop and were pulling out. I can't imaging that you would be slow enough to need that gear when driving, particularly since the shifting point says second gear at 14 MPH. Must be missing something here.

When driving in the mountains of NC, I routinely had it up to 6k+ because it's easier to slow down than to mash the breaks.. easier to control the car.

I almost never take a curve at the normal 3.5 - 4.5k cruising range around here, the 8 seems to like to accelerate into the curves.

anyone notice that if they hit a bump in the road while cornering hard, the cars suspension seems to bottom out, and the car slides big time?

RX8 feels pretty stable and predictable at the limit than a lot of other cars, namely the S2000. I get squirley in my girlfriends S2000 all the time at autocross, the RX8 is much more planted and doesn't snap oversteer nearly as bad.

Even with tires that are worn to the point of almost being slicks, the car feels very stable. Since I bought it used, I've never driven it with new tires before. They will be on the car in two days and I am going straight to the mountains.

I can't believe I never put the 2 and 2 together that the "R" in MR2 was an indication of its drive wheels. CRAP! Talk about brain fart of the century!

My mother has a toyota MR2 spyder, and I have to say that it feels much less "glued" to the road than the 8. There have been a few occasions when it slid a bit and the 8 would not have, but the toyota has no DSC or TSC.

Sometimes DSC can be unnerving because it will make the car whip back violently. Without DSC aggresives turns are much more smooth, the only thing is you better know how far you can go and how to get the tail back in.
