I don't post there if that's what you're implying, just knew it existed :p But yeah you're right, I do spend too much time on the net. I wouldn't read about the RX-8 there either, when they talk about how slow your car is you can't call their cars econobox pos to make yourselves feel better :D

No More Oldsmobiles 05-13-2005 07:37 PM

No, that's what we have the WRX for.

;) (ducks)

crosswound 05-13-2005 07:40 PM

everyone overrates the car and expects too much from it look at the lexus sc430 a very nice car most people don't even know what it looks like. at a new price its usually around 60k+ used around 45k+ you don't see them even talking about the car yea its priced for the older owners who just want a nicer car.

look around most of the 8 owners are older people i know i look around they probably wanted a nicer car but didn't want to spend a ton of money i could have easily bought a STI or a EVO since they are the same price so please just stop the hate!!!

by the way i do love my rx-8 and people do try to race me all the time since i'm a younger guy. i don't bother racing because i already know its not fast and i really don't want to waste my gas just to show some other kid its slow and make him feel good about himself.

Tigerfootball 05-13-2005 08:18 PM

sadly to say it, i have street raced, and i am ashamed of it, not because i lost, but because it was so immature. I was on the interstate and was blown away by a turboed eclipse. I was just embarassed by how immature i acted. i will never do it again.

And the other day i was driving, chilling while listening to my music, when i GT mustang was coming from the other direction, stared me down, and right as he got beside me, revved his engine as loud as he could and proceeded to speed up. What a tool. does he actually think i give a rat's a$$ that his car is faster? i hate people like that.

Other than a few instances, people REALLY seem to like my car and most of them say, "I bet that thing will fly". so from the people i talk to, our cars get respect. But some people really need to grow up before they kill themselves, or worse, someone else.

this ends my $0.02 :)

Grand Am is on right now (saturday 1pm-3pm), by the way... Speed Channel :)

Great... as I write this, the SpeedSource RX-8 just ate the wall :(

There's more than one SpeedSource 8 on track.. they're all yellow (I think?) and there's a 2nd outfit running silver Rx-8s as well..

but though we know who wins, the car that surprised me (up till he broke the car with too many off-track excursions) was the little Mini :D

SilverEIGHT 05-14-2005 08:22 PM

Yea, that was sad to see him break down. I watched the mini last year as well. He could never seem to hold it together long enough to win a race. A car needs to hold together or it may as well not have entered the race to begin with. If this happens race after race then I think it's time to start looking for some other type car to run. The SpeedSource RX8 of the Haskell/Tremblay team took the points championship last year and I think they will do it this year as well. The Acura ALWAYS puts up one hell of a fight but Tremblay usually takes it toward the end. The #70 is an awesome car but I think the driver is what gives it the checkered flag. That last lap victory at Laguna Seca was freeking awesome. I also have a new respect for the Mustang after watching them run in the GT class.

I've watched the RX8 on the Road Atlanta course and have been amazed at the cars that the 8 passes. The handling is awesome and NOTHING runs it down in the corners. Now in the straights that's another story. I watched our guys take on Vetts, Mustangs, Z's, Porsch and all kinds of cars and stand up respectably. I also know the drivers of these cars are getting damn good and that makes all the difference.

I myself pushed a Cobra kit car up the mountains in North Georgia. I was all over his ass in the turns and he would only get away from me when we'd hit a straight. But he could never shake me.

The 8 is a dang fine car. It's a 1.3 liter for gods sake! "legokcen" said the other day he was going to make a bumper sticker that read: "You have just been passed by a 1.3 liter"

We have a fine, mature, classy automobile that can be killed by an EVO. Big deal!

Thank you, good evening and ZoomZoom!

Where did we forget that cars do not go off and race each other - people do. After a street race, swap drivers between the two vehicles and see who makes the better run in comparison to the previous run. The loser of THAT time battle should be the one to feel inferior, regardless of whatever car was driven. Bash on the car as much as you want, I doubt it will begin to feel bad or cry any time soon.

Also consider that the RX-8 is comparable to many a competing car in price and attainability. For most, buying the damn car was a matter of preference - to compromise and satisfy whatever quality of an automobile is more important. Those who are now completely dissatisfied with the RX-8 due to its inability to compete with other cars in a straight line should have placed "torque" higher on their list of "must haves" for a vehicle.

In other words, any RX-8 owner could have gotten an SRT-4, Evo, WRX, STi, 350Z, RSX-S, S2000, Celica, etc.etc.etc - but might have been unhappy with those cars, regardless of how much faster they are in comparison to the RX-8.

Definatly a matter of opinion. I understand a lot of people really like how that car looks..otherwise people wouldnt buy it. Call me shallow but the looks of the RX-8 are what first grabbed me. I didnt know much about its performance until I read up on it. I know have an icnredible appreciation for a small engine that can put out lots of power. I remind people of that when they go off on thier "my car is faster" rant. I do remember when the WRX first came out i saw the first commercial out for it where the guy was driving through a mountain road or something and I remember saying "Damn that car kicks ass". It certainly does, its just my eyes disagree ;)

Mikelikes2drive 05-15-2005 03:18 AM

racing is a waste of gas and rubber -_____-

not that i dont do it... im still immature in some areas haha
sry driving fast gets my blood moving
:D
a kill section on the rx8 forum would be wrong IMO because it would just cause more drama, and more trolls
why do we care if we can beat rsx-s even if their modded, or wrx's, or g35 coupes cuz apparently ::cough:: some of us can

Don't get those two thinking they are faster ;) Also, why does everyone keep swearing the RX-8 is sooooooslow compared to a SRT-4? Stock vs, stock the SRT-4 is only 3/10's faster 0-60 and 3/10's faster in the 1/4 mile. Stupid kids

Rx8bydocabe 05-15-2005 01:06 PM

rarely anybody here mentions the R32, but to me it was between that and the RX8. honestly, at the time i chose the rx8 because of the better deal i got. but looking back at it, i'm glad i did, cause now i know i have a rare (rotary) car that is mighty sweet looking. coming from a range rover, it is fast enough for me.

The R32 is far more rare than the RX-8 will ever be, but glad you're happy regardless :)

I don't know where you're getting your SRT-4 numbers but there is a bigger difference than that. They have been known to run 13.7 1/4 miles and trap 103mph stock, that's several car lengths at the end of a 1/4 mile or a highway roll.
To put things in perspective an RX-8 with a greedy turbo would be a pretty close race with a stock SRT-4. Put the money you would spend on a greedy kit into an SRT-4 and it gets even uglier since you'd be running 11s and trapping around 120mph in an SRT-4.

I've never seen a SRT-4 run 13.7 stock, however that doesn't mean it hasn't happened. I have been to the strip and the best I seen a SRT-4 run is 14.3 stock. That's from a driver that I know personally and drives his car really good. I stated what I have read from Dodge and what I have heard from other drivers at car meets. What I don't understand is my friend(that I mentioned above) also trapped a 103 mph on his 14.3 1/4. But you say you have seen that trap on a 13.7 run. Not saying your wrong just confussed on how that's possible. I know the SRT-4 is quick for what it is but it's not that much quicker than the 8 as those people say.

The last time I was at the track lastyear there were 3 SRT-4s up there that were either stock or stage 1. They were all running mid to high 13s and trapping 101-104. In terms of drag racing the difference is pretty damn big. It's about the same thing as saying the RX-8 isn't really that much quicker than a Lancer Ralliart, because the difference in times in trap speeds is about the same.

By the way, your friend can't drive as well as you think he does or that's a particularly bad track that he's racing on.

Cattywampus 05-15-2005 05:58 PM

He runs 14.3 just about everytime. He getting a stage 2 kit when his dad returns for Iraq. I just didn't understand why 2 SRT-4's would have the same trap times but different 1/4 mile times. He autox's all the time. He's used to autox rx7's and supras. Why he switched i'll never know. I don't know that much about the 4. I go by what I read and what I hear from owners

DarwinThorne 05-15-2005 06:00 PM

I don't know about the rest of you, but i didn't buy my 8 for speed. i have a 2nd gen eclipse in the garage that lays done 415 fwhp that i bost around and kill everything from the lame civics to the c5's. i bought the 8 because there is nothing like it when it comes to styling. people try to race the 8 all of the time. i just let them do the ricer drive buy and keep on cruise down the road. yeah i think the 8 was over rated in the amount of hp that mazda claimed it'd put out, but honestly, i don't give a damn!!!!!

Trap speeds are pretty consistent between decent drivers and excellent drivers, it's usually ETs that will be different. I've know a few good autox drivers and track drivers that are decent to poor dragracers, I don't understand it but I've seen it firsthand. To give you an idea I let a friend drive my car the first time I took it to the strip after I modded it, I ran mostly 13.6s +/1 .1 with traps a bit under 100mph he ran right around 14 flat with traps a bit under 100mph. The difference being I knew how to drive my car better than he did but the traps were prettymuch the same.

samsong 05-15-2005 08:39 PM

Reading this thread...I have to agree with the majority of the 8 owners who are against street racing and oppose a "kills" section. There's always going to be another car faster in a drag, takes corners faster, looks cooler in someone's eyes, etc. Most of you get it and just enjoy your ride.

Case in point: I have a car I drive on weekends. I'm always having punks try to mix it up 'cause they want to prove something. If I'm feeling generous, I'll give a wave, but mostly I just ignore them. One time I had a Mustang GT who just "blew my doors off" (while I maintained my speed) turn off into a drive-in food place. It so happened that was where I was going, too, and pulled into an adjacent stall. There were quite a few car folks around...can you guess which car they came to see (yup, NOT the Mustang). My car's pretty slow...it's all about the style...he probably still thinks that my car is faster 'cause I never chose to race him, but he'll never know. That's why my Ferrari 308 will get replaced by an RX8.

Zoom...zoom.

Makes sense. Does it matter if it's auto or manual. I would assume so but I don't race the strip much.

Depends on the car and the specific tranny, most of the fastest purpose built drag cars have a special drag tranny that's an AT. If you're talking just a regular ole slushbox then they will almost always be slower than a decent driver in an AT of the same car. Often big american V8s are about the same in manual and automatic form though.
