Does the RX-8 ever win a race?

Please do not take this thread the wrong way, it is not meant to diss on RX-8s. I'm just a passive observer on other car forums that often have kill or street racing sections, and in every forum the members are posting of the many and many RX-8 kills they have. From s2ki.com (S2000 Forum) to eclipseforums.org (3rd Generation Eclipse Forum) to newcelica.org (Celica Forums) to clubrsx.com (RSX Forum) and etc. all post of the many and many killings of the RX-8. Now my question is for those who race, how often do you win? What type of cars have you beat? I ask because many of these cars I thought the RX-8 was faster than, such as the RSX Type S (stock for stock) and Celica GT-S (stock for stock), yet people who own these cars (and other cars) post of the many kills of RX-8s. Are people exaggerating, or is the RX-8 simply really underpowered?

Problem is that when we race, we usually have too many girls in the car. :D

I would only waste my time racing real cars, not boy toys.

i refrain posting kills on here because it isnt allowed.....but i can assure you i have only lost to bigger toys than mine.....why would most 8 owners even try to play with the likes of civics, etc?

My ? would be why do they feel a need to boast about RX-8 "kills". Does our torqueless, slow, guttless little car bother them that much? Another thought is maybe it gives them bragging rights in their group to have "kills" against such a formidible true sports car??

Lastly, perhaps RX-8 owners are a more mature group, as a whole, that don't need 'kills' to boost their already good ownership experience by "bragging" about who they (supposedly) beat to their friends.

Anyway you cut it, it's lame but if it makes them feel better about their wheels, who cares? Truth is another thing more than likely.....

First of all--you can't believe everything you read on these forums. Stock for stock the RX8 6-port is faster than the Celica GTS(LOL) and RSX--the S2000 is faster than the RX8. Another thing you have to consider is, the demographic of the RX8 is different from those cars (more mature buyer typically). I can post all day long about how many 350Zs, Vipers, Cavaliers, and Hummers I beat without ever having to set foot in my car. So to your question "Does the RX8 ever win any races" check out SCCA autocross standings and compare the specs of the RX8 to the miscellaneous cars specs and you shall find your answer.

What chrism said and that the fact that the RX-8 isn't a drag car. Sure it can be with a little work but if these are just straight line races, it dosen't surprise me. There's lots of factors like if it's an auto vs mt RX-8, who is driving, ect, ect, ect. And eveyone is right about the mature buying aspect. Added: Most of us I think are older and don't feel a need to burn our tires at every green light. I take it as a compliment that so many people feel a need to compete with the RX-8. It's just as was said before. They obviously think the 8 is a superior sports car or they would be killing something else. I've had people come up beside me wanting to race and I rarely bother with it. Put me on an autox and we'll go. I don't need to race on the street. Although every now and again I do have the feeling that I should put people in their place. lol.

You can't believe everything you read. They may be racing the auto , not the stick or 8 drivers who are not really racing them because of break- in mileage or unwilling to push the car to the limit. Or modded ricers aginst stock 8s. The 8 does not reach it's full potential till higher rpms. Some car may get a jump on it. It's also hard to get a good launch from stop. It's all relative. This car is fun to drive and feels very fast compared to most other cars on the road. I test drove the s2000 and felt no difference in power compared to the 8. It does'nt matter what other forums say. I know I have the better car in every way.

I think that you guys summed it up quite well. The RX8 community appears much more mature than most "boy racer" types that you encounter on the streets. I simply love it when I'm driving along and some kid in a civic pulls up on my rear and I just pull over...you'd be amazed at the stare you get when they realize that you don't want to be bothered by them.

Yeah it's won races. Real races, over real racecars, not some impromptu meeting by two nitwits at some stoplight.

May 1 an 8 took the Grand Am at Laguna Seca, six-tenths over an Acura RSX-S.

Before that, it's slaughtered a couple of BMW 3-series in the same Grand Am race series.

Last year it did fairly well too, but this year is even better.

Grand Am is on Speed, at odd times and odd days.. as they say, 'check your local listings.'

Looks like the 8 is shaping up to be a sweet racecar, just like all its predecessors.

Mebby I should drop by SpeedSource.. they're local to me.. they prep the GrandAm cars. :D

Why no kills section?

As an aside, why exactly is there no "kills section" on this forum? On www.rx7club.com, which as I understand it is the "sister site" of this one, there is a kills section, so why not on this board? Just wondering.

Btw I imagine plenty of RX-8's have won races, but of course people are notgoing to talk about those instances in a kills section of forum dedicated to fans of another brand of car, now are they? I have plenty of idiots challenging me with things like stock Civics with a loud exhaust, 4-cylinder pick-ups etc.

I, for one, am thankful there's no street-racing nor kills forum in this place. I've perused other boards, and I'm shocked and frankly repulsed by the juvenile backwards-thinking atmosphere.

Miata.net doesn't ahve a kills section either. And it's fine just as - is.

It took me a good long while to warm up to *this* site, mainly for the same things. I really don't like a place full of horsepower ****** and wannabe racers. And that's what we had here early on -- a bunch of people trolling and hemming and hewing about lack of hp and torque and 'she's so slow' and all that crap. Bunch of straight-line drag wannabes. Begone with it!

There is no kills section because as most members are older or self-proclaimed 'more mature' we also don't endorse street racing. I use to be a member over at RX7 club as I use to have an FD and I did my share of street racing--you couldn't pay me to go back to doing that. Too dangerous, too costly, too risky.

I think there's no kills section to portray a false sense of 'we're better than _______'. There's no logical reason behind it; but anyone who owns a site has the right to do whatever the hell they want.

Why doesn't somebody start rx8killstories.com? :D

Yea, I've been to a few of those sites. According to a few of those post they got stock rsx-s beating cobra's and Sti's too. You can't believe everything thats posted, especially from fanboys who think that the SRT4 is the greatest sports car ever invented.

That said, many of these cars that have been around awhile have large after market support. Looking at some of the sigs on these forums show many are far from stock cars. At this point, any decent car can beat any car with enough or the right mods. I got a vid of a civic beating a viper., and eclipse's can be mad modded.

The RX8 is fairly new and only now are aftermarket turbo's becoming available, so a modded whatever beating a stock RX8 is no big surprise, especially the auto, which is alot slower then the manual.

The RX8 "feels" slow when driving because the way it builds it's power so smoothly and quietly, that you really don't realized how fast you are getting there. Mazda actually had to put a buzzer in at 8500 RPM to remind you it's time to "start thinking" about shifting. You really don't get the pin your back to the seat feel, but you get there pretty quickly.

The low torque in the car is the biggest complaint. It's not as fast as other cars in it's class off the line. Being in the high 5's to low 6's in 0-60 is not exactly slow. Power kicks in at relatively high RPM's (over 6K), just like the s2000, which has the same hp but it's lighter, so take offs can be relatively "not quick" but more then makes up for it once things get rolling.

Street racing is dangerous and I don't think this monitor wants to encourage it. Trying to execute a kill can get someone killed. This car is plenty fast and fun to drive. Street kills don't prove anything except stupidity. I always feel stupid and guilty after drag racing win or not.

I dunno, it seems like everyone takes shots at me when I'm driving around. The thing is, I'm not racing them. I'm just driving normally, not really pushing the car at all. I must be going pretty fast, because everyone thinks I'm racing them.

I've seen everything from Civics to minivans weave in and out of traffic to get ahead of me. They are a menace on the road. But I guess, they go home, log onto their minivan forum and brag about how they "owned" an 8.
