So i bought the car from a private seller, and in the paperwork i have the warranty for the Rotary engine core limited warranty it was dated may 2008 and its for 100,000 miles or 8 years , i am only at 62k miles . do i have to do any special paperwork to get it transfered to me? I have never had to deal with using a warranty in a car. I know i filled out a paper that the original owner sent to mazda for any new recall information.. does anyone know?

 

Yes, the warranty is for the engine core, not the owner.
As long as you can prove that adequate maintenance was performed, you should have no problem with an eventual claim. Trouble is, if the previous owner didn't keep records, then you'll have a hard time proving the car was properly maintained.

OK great yes i have all the records thank God the previous owner took it into the dealer countless times to have it inspected and oil changed nice so hopefully i dont need to get anything fixed with the engine but if i did around 99k miles i wouldnt be mad get new parts ...

 

the 8y100k mile extended warranty on the engine core is from the build date of the vehicle, As an example mine is an 04 but my extended core already expired.

After you have an engine replaced they do give you another 12m/12k mile warranty.
My warranty expired a week after I had my engine replaced so It's worth getting a routine compression check-up.

 

The inception of the warranty is from the original date of sale. When the car was first purchased by a consumer.

I bought mine used but the original owner Pre-ordered it in 2003 so my warranty expired the same as the build date.

Call your dealership and tell them to a run a VIN CHECK on all warranty & recall information and they can tell you when your warranty expires.
It could have already expired. I'm not sure if I had the greatest dealership on earth, but according to my dealership, compression tests are done under warranty so if you have any symptoms of a bad engine you can get a compression test for free. Again, I don't know if this is true, I just may have found the world's nicest dealership.

 

Someone told you a little white lie The warranty starts when the vehicle is first "sold" or goes into service. Sometimes that isn't the first consumer...sometimes the dealers register them as demo's etc...

I only know from what my old dealership told me when I asked for all of the information but I know the previous owner pre-ordered back in '03 so that's most likely why my build date is also the same time as when the warranty expired.

Either way, if he is worried about his warranty, he should contact a dealership and they can run a vin check... it's that simple.

So the dealership they are expired and no open recalls. the dealer was nice and helped right away.. they said that compression test runs about 100 dollars.

 

Keep in mind...do the compression test before your engine core warranty expires. Make sure you have all of the oil change receipts. Anyway, do you know if your car has the original engine or its been replaced by a reman before?
