Do you trust quickie oil change places?

I've been going to the dealership for the last three years. However, I no longer work near a dealership. Does anyone take their 8 to a quickie lube type place for oil changes? Is there anything different on an 8 that they wouldn't know about from working on so many piston-engined cars?
Should I make sure they use 5W20?
Your guidance is appreciated.

you should watch them do everything. Many of those places will rip u off if u let them. And the only real difference is that the rotary runs much hotter, thus hotter oil temps.

don't do it.

just get a quick drain plug and buy some pureone filters from amazon.com (about $6 each) and you can do your own oil change in about 10 mins.

I trust them without fail. I also trust the mailman when he says he is tutoring my wife on the proper way of fitting a package into a slot.

I don't trust the dealership to work on my car. They do the recalls and thats about it. For oil changes, I take my car to an actual mechanic (who happens to be my brother). The quickie places are ok for transportation type vehicles (ie - I own my car to drive to work). If your car is your "baby", I'd probably suggest you get someone who knows cars to do even oil changes. They can spot loose linkages, rough idle noises, give you feedback on how the car seems to be holding up. Quick-lube type places employ mostly "techs" who aren't trained on much beyond oil changes, don't know individual cars, and all processes are price-reduced for profit margin. That said, other than the fact that you only really do partial oil changes (assuming you don't drain the coolers), changing oil on a rotary or piston engine is more or less the same.

I have gone to one before, but I brought my own oil and filter. The only reason I went was we just moved and the garage was still full of boxes and a dirt driveway is not a good place to jack a car up. But both problems are solved now. They did a fine job with the change tho. Note I went to a Valvaline place not a JiffyLube.

I used to take my last car to Oil Can Henry's. You get to pull into the bay, sit in your car, and watch the whole process via some TV monitors they put next to your car.
Pretty cool idea actually, if you ask me.

As for the 8... I don't take it there, the dealership actually does a pretty good job on mine for routine maintenance.

Take it to Oil Can Henry..been reliable as far as I can tell..but then again, I'm now changing my own to save some $$..don't trust any other place..dealership is all variable (bad/good)..at least with Oil Can Henry, you sit in the car as they do the service..so..makes it less iffy than just dropping off the car..

get the fram quick drain, or the other one with the valve. A pump isn't going to work properly unless it's draining from under the car.

...and that is why you do it yourself. No doubts there, plus if you screw up, you can only be mad at yourself

I did mine yesterday in 4" of snow...took about 5 minutes of actual work....lifting the jack, jacking the car, straining to undo the filter and the bolt for the drain....OH GOD I am tired just thinking about it

It is a DIY...unless your dealership does it for $19.95 and your happy with the oil they use....then it's not worth the 5 minutes work for the money

^ gotta agree w/that. Doing it yourself is not a big deal. You should try to find a good mechanic though. Not having to rely on the dealership is a good thing.

I take mine to my mechanic and pay like $10 bucks for him to lift it, drain it, and refill. I bring the oil and filter. No fuss, no muss, and no burned fingers. lol.

I do bring them beer occasionally, as well. Never hurts.

I'd never let one of those places touch my car... I got a fumuto quick drain valve installed (dont even need to ramp or jack the car up). I always time a visit back home when i need to do my own oil. My dad has a 55 gallon drum we collect all the oil in and turn it in later.

I dont trust my car with anyone - not even my closest friends drive it. I refuse to hand my keys over to an oil tech that might not even graduated high school, much less some big stupid valet at a club. No one can respect my car like I can

I have been taking mine to EZ Lube for the past 2 years without any problems. They are only a couple of blocks away so it's convenient. I always bring my own mazda oil filter and oil drain plug washer for them to use.

You can't expect a muffler place to credit you for a free oil change just because they underfilled the crankcase by less than 1/2 a quart; they'll merely top it off for you. The muffler joint around here (Midas, I think) charges something like 16.99 for most cars all the time; but I still wouldn't take the 8 there. I like bringing my own oil and filter, and have always done that with all my cars. That way I know some recycled garbage vegetable oil isn't going in.
