Do you REALLY know what weight oil your dealer uses in your 8??

I for one will not have a dealer or any other grease monkey changing my oil... I don't trust any of them on any level. Plus it's good bonding time with your 8... you bleed for it, and it bleeds for you. Hell, If I could do my own warranty work and have the parts shipped to me directly, I would... but that's just me.

I know my dealer did the right oil the first time as I was standing next the car. However, sicne I have been rather disapointed with their willingness to fix things under warranty, I do the changes myself. This way I can also take the time to drain the oil coolers (somewhat).

I posted a lot about my previous experiences w/ oil changes. The last time I watched them pour it in, drain it, add it, drain, and add it - from bottles. Someone was right about other Mazda models using 5/20 - I believe the new MPVs and Mazda 6 use it. But the ticket still printed the change as '10W30' on the last visit. I don't trust them much if I can't see it. Mine has only been in for oil changes; I got the first one from my dealer; but they claimed back in October that they'd worked on several already - I didn't really buy it but didn't try to argue it just the same. I use Castrol 5W20 for my additions between. Or I will when I get to drive it again, hopefully soon.

I just had my oil changed and they put mazda issue 5w20 in. They also (per my complaints) relashed my PCM after finding a pending mis-fire code and replaced my fouled spark plugs. They seem to be very educated.

Before you guys think that our cars are all that special in this requirement, be aware FORD is using 5w20 in everything, including the new F150 and Mustang. It is a Ford corporate level spin on CAFE and not specific to Mazda. We are not the only ones going through this and my understanding is that we are ok using a thicker grade of oil.

My dealer doesn't carry 5W-20. "I think we can order it, though." WHat do you use in the shop? "We just throw 10W-30 in everything. That's all we acn get in bulk."
I have my daughter do my oil changes at the Honda dealership where she works. Do they have 5W-20 in bulk? No--10W-30. 5W-20 only comes in 1qt. containers which they order by the pallet loads. Most new Hondas require it, so they make sure they get it. The Honda service shop is overwhelmed with customers. the Mazda service shop has few. Wonder why.

I then called Mazda Customer Service on my cell phone from the parking lot and asked them what was going on, and why I can't find a dealer who was willing to put the correct oil in my car. The Customer Service drone goes, "Oh really? We haven't heard of this before." I told him that most owners probably ASSUME the dealer is putting the correct oil in and don't even ask or check.
So he says he'll get back to me "at the beginning of next week". In the meantime, I'm fuming. So do you guys know for sure that you have 5W-20 oil, or did you just "ASSUME" the dealer put the right stuff in? I suggest you look at your receipts and call your service departments. You may be in for a surprise. Post your results here!

The point is, one never really knows unless they see the bottle of oil opened and poured into the vehicle, that is why maintenance is so frustrating.

Use 5W20 please,And Do not use Synthetic if you are wondering why there are many posts with very descriptive reasons wy not to use synthetic. Please check one of the threads if you don't believe me.
