Do you like the factory spoilers? nor not.

Personally I have never really liked the look of spoilers unless they are just a lip on the back of the car... They just don't seem to add anything to the car aesthetically. I bought an rx without one and love the way it looks and every RX7 I ever drooled on was sans spoiler. I also shake my head at every riced out car with the big bolt on wings... (yes I'm a judgemental ***)(who can't spell) I can understand em for racing but for street driving does the stock spoiler actually do anything for the car? And do most of you like the way it looks? am I alone in my views?

No, you're not alone. I wouldn't worry about what others thought about my car. Enjoy it for what it is

I like the look of the car without the spoiler waaaay better personally.

Only time a spoiler really helps keep the car planted is at speeds in excess of 100+.

That being said, I have seen some aftermarket spoilers on these cars that look tasteful.

I hate spoilers. Unless you're tracking on weekends doing triple-digit speeds, it's just a fashion accessory. And extra drag. And extra weight. And ugly. And makes your trunk want to eat you.

Same here. It was a must have when I was looking for my RX-8. But I certainly can understand why some don't care for them. And personally, I don't dislike RX's sans spoiler.

That being said, huge Fast 'n Furious wings are absolutely ridiculous.

I like the stock spoiler. It seems to work with the car. That being said I could live without it. My car just happened to come with one.

Stock spoiler is clean and tasteful, but my preference for a street car is no spoiler. Even cleaner and more tasteful. Nearly puked yesterday when I saw a BMW drive by with one of those tall spoilers like you see on low-end ricers.

There are a couple of spoilers that I enjoyed. One was on my wife's old Hornet Sportabout. Small wagon. It had a spoiler that was the wrong way for lift, but directed air over the back window and kept it clean. I also liked the spoiler on the Plymouth Super Bird, because it was outrageous and flaunted the rules. But that was a high speed race car.

I actually think that the OEM spoiler is essential for the RX-8 to look good. The rear just seems unbalanced somehow without it.

I think the OEM spoiler looks good with an OEM aero package set up, almost like without it wouldn't look good at all IMO. Now that being said, since modding my car with rims, lowering, etc., more and more I want to replace it with a lip spoiler to flow better looks wise.

All depends what's on the car, but from the factory is looks like it belongs there. At least it flows well for OEM and isn't obnoxious like those Eclipse ones.

To answer this particular question, specific to the RX-8, the answer is "yes, it does".

The OEM spoiler is just that a "spoiler", not a "wing". It actually does have a quantifiable improving impact on the coefficient of drag of the car as a whole. Lower drag with it, higher without it.

Of course, other things can negate this (windows open, moonroof open, moonroof wind deflector, front bumper changes, etc...), and I don't mean to suggest that large aftermarket wings have a beneficial impact on drag coefficient.

If proof is needed, I can take a picture of the page from Mazda's book on the RX-8 which has the drag numbers for with vs without.

depends on the car and spoiler but I find most cars look better with the spoiler.

I like mine, but the stock spoiler is one of the only ones that I like on this car.

i like my stock spoiler. Without it the car seems almost naked . Each to his own. If we all had similar taste our cars would be the same.

I do like it, but under mine it's starting to rust the trunk lid.
Obviously a poor install, not by me I should add.

I thought the purpose of a spoiler was to disrupt air flow behind so people couldn't follow in your draft.

Wings are to provide downforce

The stock spoiler disrupts the sensor for the auto dim mirror when the car behind you is fairly close... It casts a shadow and the auto dim goes on and off.
Other than that I don't really care either way.

this made my day.

on topic, the stock spoiler is essential. the rear of car looks extremely unbaclanced without it. it bring a smoother visual end to the back of the car. theres the big bubble for the cabin, then nothing but a flat trunk. the spoiler replaces the lack of a long sloping hatch to bring a smoother end to the back of the car in my book. but thats me.

It depends on the car for me....

Stock, yes.
Lowered with a kit, no/maybe.

I like the spoiler on my car, because my car is stock.
