You have to take into account that S2 engines are still pretty new and most dont have a lot of miles on them yet, so who knows if they are gonna fail or not.
Thats a hell of a gamble to take. See above, there aren't enough high mileage S2 engines to declare them fail-proof. Noone expects their engine to fail, but it does happen. I would say its worth the small trouble of holding on to some reciepts if it could possibly save you several thousand dollars down the road. You have a gift in the form of a free 8 year, 100k mile engine warranty. Why flush that gift down the drain just because you cant be bothered to hold on to a few receipts?

Well if my S2 motor fails then I'm selling the car on the spot and the rotary expericend will end for me right there. Let the next owner wrangle with Mazda. With all the S2 changes with regard to cooling and oiling and considering the rotary engine has been in production since the 60s then that is a total embarrassment for Mazda. And really having a recepit that says you bought a few QTs of oil doesnt prove anything really. Hell regardless of who changed the oil the filter could have been undertighened, etc and leaked causing a failure...who knows?
In the meantime, I'm enjoying the car for its handling. But reading all these horror stories doesn't help my new car first-time rotary ownership experience. Can I do an S2K swap?

Huge hole is huge
I wish I would have known that the receipts would fade. I went through a year and a half of oil changes that I just threw the receipts in my box. I decided to look them over one day and they were all blank...0 proof I did any oil changes. So I did my best to fill out the online site with my information, but that CAN'T work if they fight it with me...I just hope to god my engine lives...

i have the Dealer do the oil changes (they use Castrol GTX 5w30), and I log it into mymazda.com until I see their service data populate then I deleat my note. I always note on theirs that they used 5w30 oil just incase it ever is an issue. (And I save all my receipts). for those worried about the $40-$60 dollars for an oil change, just go to the customer lounge and eat $40 worth of coffee and donuts...

As for the phone number part, I like that. I'll have to see if I can get those soon, just for my records.

As for the Bank, it would just pull up showing I bought 20some odd bucks from AutoZone on this day. Wouldn't the Dealership be like "Oh we don't know WHAT you bought".

That did not occur to me, either. It was advice from the cashier at Advance Auto Parts a few months ago when I bought a new battery for my wife's car.
But for people who don't have receipts...don't you keep a notebook where you write down dates and mileages of oil changes? Look in your glovebox or garage for it. Or maybe look in an office supply store, where they'll also have a variety of pens with different inks.

5 Boro Rotary......5BR
I do my own oil sometimes and sometimes I go to my local jiffy lube to get it done.. I guess from now on I'm going to have to keep all recipes plus log on to Mazda website just to be safe..
