Do you do your own oil changes? If so, read.
I know there is a sticky for the 8 year/100k engine warranty but I wonder how many never actually read the warranty ( I never did and I have had two replaced under warranty).
Anyway, EXPO1 brought this up in another thread: http://www.flickr.com/photos/9krpmrx8/5227222148/http://www.flickr.com/photos/9krpmrx8/5227222148/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/9krpmrx8/, on Flickr So, to avoid denial, if you do your own oil changes, I suggest using a good Dino oil and documenting your changes in accordance with this part of the engine warranty. |
yup, people very often overlook that small detail.
For those who do their own oil changes, keep receipts showing you bought oil filters and oil. Input said oil changes on your maintenance log or online under the owners section of mazdausa.com |
I guess I got lucky, or maybe the fact that I ooze whoop ass just made them replace it without any hassle

I have that problem... I think mainly it had to do with the fact that I had to go to a different dealer since mine closed due to the economy.

I used to have a Maxima and the Nissan dealer tried to deny a problem I had with the ignition coils due to my intake. I just laughed and asked him to explain this to me in detail. He said he would have the tech call me instead, but I went straight over there and went he saw me walk in he immediately told me that he got it approved under warranty. I was ready to do battle and I think he knew it. Educating yourself gives you a huge advantage. Hell the first time my visor broke they tried denying it, you should have seen the look on his face when I handed him the service bulletin I printed out from mazda  I have a ton of dealer stories, I have owned many cars. |
I haven't been entering my oil changes on the mazda website because I didn't even know about that. All I do is staple my oil filter receipt to my oil receipt and write down my mileage on it. I think that should be good enough.

Even if you have the dealership do your oil changes, I'd say its still important to keep your own records.
For example, Ive had every oil change done at the dealership where I purchased the car, yet when I check my service history on mymazda.com its pretty much blank. The dealership said they have all my oil changes on record and its a problem with the website. Who knows who's fault it is but I don't know if I'd trust the dealership to provide that history if there was a warranty issue. Luckily I have all the reciepts. |
Well I'm fighting this to the end and then some for making me wait

Mine is the same way, doesn't even show my first engine change. I even called Mazda corp and the girl had no explanation. |
Fortunately, I discovered the MyMazda website, therefore I've started my maintainance history there already. And of course, I'm keeping all my paper receipts along with me.
:icon5: One question: Do you think I have to keep records / receipts for the times I buy motor oil to use for topping off frequently? |
Texas I dont think so, but it couldnt hurt anything. I usually end up buying the 5L jug of oil(or as close to that as I can) which leaves me with around 1L to top off after the oil change. Wish I could get more oil out but it just doesn't happen.
9krpmrx8 I wish I still had the booklet that came with the car, the guy who had it before me lost it. :icon_no2: |
I did all my oil changes at the dealership to avoid any confusion and stress.
|
Pdx I wouldve started that but the dealership was trying to charge me $50 for an oil change, and if I wanted them to use 5w30 it woulda been $60. Theres no way I was gonna pay that.
Now a GM dealer in my area bought the rights to service mazdas from that horrible place and I think if you pay for 6 oil changes up front its 59.99 or 69.99, whatever it is its cheap as hell. I might have to start going to them, even with the gas for driving out there its cheaper than what it would cost me to change it. |
$60 for an oil change is ridiculous

I always did my own oil changes until I got the 8. Dealer did them for free for the first two years, during which I discovered the joy of staying clean and loafing around the customer lounge instead of getting dirty and figuring out how to dispose of the old oil. At $15 to $30 per change (depending on coupon) the long term cost is a wash on what I'd spend for oil and filters. Ken |
Yea I do need to copy them before they fade, I keep forgetting. The only problem with getting the oil changed at the dealer is they always want to use 5w20.
|
I tried doing it at the dealer for the first couple of changes but it was a hassle because they took forever to do it. Takes me 15 minutes and I get to make sure it was done properly.
|
You would think issues would arise from the reciepts having a different oil weight than 5-20w tho?
|
No they only recommend 5w20 its not required. In Japan they recommend a different weight of oil, I forget why its 5w20 here but I think it was for mpg. If not then theres another reason I cant remember.

I would like to know whose RX8 engines are failing. Are these 04 cars? Automatics? People that bought their cars used? People that never check their oil?
I have a 2010 and I don't expect anything to go wrong with my motor inside of 100K. I do my own changes at 5K and I don't keep recepits. Mazda if you are reading this.......(insert mouth-farting sound) :wavey: |
Anyone having trouble registering on the owners page for mazdausa? Everytime i enter my information and confirm that the vin number is mine, it goes to a page that states "this page is no longer available" or something to that nature. Very strange.

My buddy is a tech and now they are seeing more and more 06's, so as mileage continues to go up on the later models, so will engine replacements. The Series II's seem to be holding up, I have not heard of any replacements in the Series II RX-8's. |
