Do we need to TURBO the RX-8?

I don't know whether anyone thought of modding the RX-8 already.

RX8 is good very stylish car but only one thing - the mazdaspeed kit kills and the Torque from the engine is not as powerful as the 350Z nor the turbo charged EVO and STis.

Like the RX7 they have eventually got their TURBOed 13B ... I wonder we have to go the same road for RX8. I am driving a DC2 now and never thought of TURBO it.

There is space for it and I am sure that a small twin can be fitted - hopefully mazdaspeed will say something about it.
Airintake and exhaust is a must - potential is greater than the 350z and that is why I pick RX8 over the Z

What do you guys think?

hmm...

I'm sure they will come out a kit in japan one of these days for the RX8 engine but have to make sure that the engine could stay cool and not over heat....

It was already suggested by Mazda's engineers that they will be increasing rotor width in the RX-7 instead of turbocharging the engine.

Thus, I hope to see no turbos.

True performance increases come from engineering for max power, and weight reduction. Both of those should be applicable when the MPS RX-8 comes out. The RX-7 should also follow those guidelines.

I never liked turbos because it gives a shortcut to power without an increase in engineering efficiency. That's why BMW pumps so much horsepower out of smaller engines, and they don't like turbos there either. Engineering first.

Anyhoo, there are lots of topics about this and I suggest this be closed and you participate in one of the ongoing ones.

i'm not sure how plausible turbos are for the RX-8. C/D said at:

http://www.caranddriver.com/xp/Caran...review_rx8.xml

"But before you start mentally calculating how much more power a turbo version of the Renesis engine will punch out, we have to tell you that relatively cool exhaust gas from turbocharged rotary motors prevents efficient catalytic conversion, making it unlikely we'll see one soon, if ever."

In other words, bad emissions. So Mazda probably won't release another turbo rotary. But there are other ways of getting power ... :D

NO NO NO NO NO NO TO TURBO!!!

Increase the size of the rotors or add a third rotor, but no turbo.

This is already being discussed in the Tech/Garage and Aftermarket forums (and in a previous thread in this forum). There is no need for people to repeat themselves again, closing...
