I have an automatic model and the shifter cover is made of cheap plastic. I want to change it. I found that automatic shifter cover and manual shift boot are same size. But the Automatic shift **** is longer than manaul's. Is automatic shifter cover removable? If it is possible, I will remove the automatic shifter cover, install the manual shift boot and replace shift **** also. Any idea for this plan? Possible?

 

If I understand right, you will no longer be able to tell what position you are in? R, D, 1, 2 since they will be covered up?

 

I don't need to see where the shift position is. 1 P -> 2. R -> 3. N -> 4. D -> Left. M it is easy. Also dashboard tells what position I am in.

 

^not true, the gears are listed on the dash too, and also if you the know the car then you know where the gears are at

 

I think there were some pics posted where the auto shifter cover was replaced with the manual shift boot. It looked good.
Unless you WANT to have a different shifter ****, I would leave the stock one alone because it looks just fine IMO.

 

you will end up just tricking yourself cause everyone that will know car will know it's an auto, and may result in them looking down on "wannabes"

there are however ways to change it, even cutting it so it's "lower"

 

this would make the interior look alot better...if anyone has the thread to do this or a picture please post it.

 

I am not wannabe manual, I just want some leather look intead of cheep plastic look. I had G35 before rx8 and it has leather shift boot even it is automatic. GTI's DSG shift has leather boot.

And I don't think the stock automatic shift **** will match with leather shift boot.

 

 

Get the evo-r auto carbon fiber cover for that cheap piece of plastic and cut the shifter about an inch lower... Looks great

Only shift boot is needed or should I buy metal ring around the shift boot?

 

metal ring is part of shift boot, i bought it at an autoparts store at the mall and the **** too for another 20 for **** 20 for boot
