Discontinued RX8

This forum will be the death of the RX8.

So many damn whiners and cry babies.

You guys are killing the sales of a great car.

Including the aftermarket.

Well.. what he says is true in a way. This is the largest RX-8 forum and has a large influence on the image of the RX-8 to web surfers and car enthusiasts. I believe that a lack of "kill" stories hinders its performance image. The RX-8 gets continually bashed by others and yet we are powerless to help ourselves. And the image of a car drive sales. This is just my observation from years of forum trolling. (Remember when forums were just newsgroups? Ah.. good times..) Well, whatever...

Yes, I agree SlowLude.
For the most part, a car's "reliability" is only as good as how the owner experienced the car....
You might talk to an 8 owner and tell you that the car is a POS. Another owner might tell you the car is the best car he/she ever had..... It is strongly stereotyped based on personal experience and not so much on statistical data.....
But besides this, I personally believe that the rx8 has it's glitches, but for the most car it is one of the most interesting cars I have come across..... It is so unique.... RX8 owners should be proud of their vehicle.... For all those owners out there that bad-mouth the 8, they probably must have a reason to do so, but they need to remember that not all 8's are the same....anyways.... I guess the point is the car is only as good as it's owner.....

Have you looked at this THREAD ? Probably not if you think the way you do.
How has your experiance with the RX-8 been?
I own my second one now. And I LOVE IT !
Sure it has it's little problems. But what car doesn't?
I have owned cars from Audis to Maseratis to Studebakers.
Foreign and domestic cars.
And they all have their little (or big) quirks.
But this is the funnest car I have ever owned. And it has been very reliable.
And I have not had any problems with Mazda cars that would make think they are not a wonderful car. This is my 7th Mazda vehicle.
Look people still buy Ford, GM and Chrysler cars and they get recalled by the 100's of thousands.
I feel Mazda is alot better car than they are.
So get off your little pitty potty and wake up.

This forum will have absolutely no impact on the survival of the RX8. It took me a minute to stop laughing before I could respond.

In my case the RX8 was a great asset to Mazda. I bought an RX8 about 2 months ago, a leftover 2005. The rotory motor was cool, but frankly it's a gas hog. What sold me was the chassis. The only other touring car that comes close (to me at least) is the Porsche 928 - and I like the RX8 MUCH better then my old 928.

The RX8 was bought as a replacement to the shifter kart stuff my son & I used to race. 3 shifter karts, 6 motors, a trailer and a conversion van to sell (most is now sold). I was considering a Nissan Murano as a daily driver. Instead, 2 weeks ago I bought a CX-7.

While we were at the daeler checking out the CX-7 my wife looked at the 5. They had a sport with a 5 speed and she took it for a spin. She's been hunting dealers & Mazda's inventory for a Blue Touring 5 with a manual trans, and once she finds it we'll buy it.

So in our case the RX8 lead to 2 additional purchases in the same year. The same day I bought my CX-7 another RX8 owner was buying a CX-7 (for the wife).

Its just like Chevrolet and the Vette.

But in case the RX8 does go away so what? There are enough used ones to go around and lots of great alternate choices. How many of you have driven the AWD Acura or Audi?

Really whether it has pistons or a rotor really doesn't matter when you foot's on the gas pedal. Its all about how much do you enjoy a car as an entire package. Mazda does a fabulous job and lives up to the market theme of "zoom-zoom". They'll survive and so will the rotory.

The RX8 is a great car,and definitely reliable (imo). My biggest complaint is the **** poor technicians that work on it.

Kill stories would probably have a negative impact if any. I believe in no way does this forum make a difference to an intelligent person. At least I hope not.

Don't forget that Ford, GM and Chrysler production rates are much, much higher than imports.... at least in this country.... so oviously recalls are going to be in the 100's of thousands.....

Kill stories are equal to fish stories.... if a person is not there it just isn't believed or is looked at as exagerated.

Do fish stories give respect?

Besides the reason we don't support kills is there is no respect earned from drivers that aren't racing at the time of the "kill".

As for the whiners and such.... seems like the majority of people now days must have something to complain about. If it isn't one thing it is another...

So true. People bitch and moan and whine about things they should have discovered while researching or test driving the car. (You guys DID do those things before plopping down the money, right?)

On the contrary, I think this forum does make a difference to the intelligent person. The intelligent person is able to separate the wheat from the chaff, and get a pretty good picture of what the real strengths and weaknesses of the car are, what are real issues and what are overblown. For every person who natters about oil consumption, there are 10 to post about how it's not a big deal at all, you go through about one extra quart between oil changes. For every one person who frets about driving in snow, there are 10 to point out that with good snow tires, it's no problem at all. Those are just a couple things I myself was concerned about when I bought the car, and this forum proved quite accurate in its addressing the issues and allaying my concerns. And remember, the intelligent person also reads the positive threads, like the couple cited above.

As an aside, I couldn't be more delighted with the ban on kill stories. Kill stories are juvenile and stupid.

I agree with Krankor. I'd heard a lot of negative things about this car from various people and they told me I was stupid to want it, basically. I read through a bunch of stuff on here and discovered it was blown significantly out of portion. Sure, there can be issues but everything has issues with something at some time or another. The little bit of extra car and attention you have to put into checking your oil and adding some regularly takes a total of maybe 15 extra minutes a month. It's no big deal. Of course, washing it will just take up all your time because you can't stop and you will obsess over every little dead bug and speck of dust you find. That's the real problem with this car!!!

I'm not sure the typical buyer will look at this or any other forum. The buyers who DO look at forums may be influenced one way or the other, and it could truly go either way. Before buying my 8 recently, I looked at forums for the S2000, Crossfire, Thunderbird, Z4, Miata, and SLK. Some really did turn me off (you think there are complaints here? read the Mercedes forums), but most loved their cars but still reported problems and understood their respective weaknesses. Crossfire owners despise Chrysler dealerships more than you hate Mazda dealers (they also hate the fact that their cars have tanked in resale value, another something they share with many 8 owners). Many S2000 owners wish their cars were serviced by Acura, not Honda; and they wish there was more low-end torque (sound familiar?). Thunderbird owners are content to be boulevard cruisers, not sports cars. Miata owners love the fun of their vehicles, but many would buy the S2000, Z4, or Boxster if they could afford it or wanted to have that much money tied up in a car.

The point is that you can learn a lot about cars on forums; and no forum is generally a lovefest for the car. People have vested interest in them, but they also seem to love complaining as much as praising. It's the nature of the beast.

I agree, support for the most part sucks.
They (Mazda) needs to train their tech's better...
The average 8 owner knows a lot about their vehicle (thanks to this forum)...
Some of the nonsense whiners here don't even own an 8....

I got my car two months ago, but I was reading this forum for a few months before to check out the car.
I'll admit I was pretty close to not buying a RX8 cause all I was reading was post after post about flooded this and broken that, recalls, lack of HP, ext.

So far so good, 1201 miles on the car!

The chasis is definately the strength of the car but the motor helps make the chasis possible as well IMO.
