The discoloration may be due to differential glazing (from overheating) of the pad, or it might just be a faulty pad. In other words, the inner part of the pad causing the discoloration is a different consistency than the outer edge of the pad. That's speculation 'cause I don't recall seeing that condition before. If the discoloration doesn't disappear after driving the car for awhile you should have the dealer check it out.

Not a problem!
I have had this come and go on two sets of pads.
You will see it one day and then the next it's gone.

I frankly would be concerned for what I see in that pic resembles a nonfloating caliper and scorching ..it appears to show brake pad gouging, (rippling)Take it in .

You are glazing your pads and rotors. The RX-8 was designed to the same stopping ability of a Porsche 986. Which means you have "hand of God stopping power"
USE IT. My grandma always applies brakes about a block from the stop light and just drags them all the way. this will glaze the brakes pretty quick and also degrade stopping ability.

Did you just say your wife isn't hot? or am I missunderstanding something?

Do you have a 914?

Sorry I should have put this into better context. But since the thread was closed I could not show my there.
