Dealership Washed My Car!

Just picked up my 8 from the dealership after getting new plugs for a low power @ high RPM issue. (THAT STORY)
I dropped it off VERY DIRTY and they returned it clean, I was shocked. I have come to expect the minimum when it comes to service. Anyone else get their 8 washed after dropping it off for warranty work?

A forum member had his car washed after he explictedly asked them not to. Turns out they did and removed his 6 coats of Zaino...

My dealer washes all cars that get serviced there... but I usually tell them not to unless it's completely filthy.

mine always comes out washed... even if it was clean to begin with (which being black means it then just gets waterspotted...)

Mine wahses their service cars as well. But I ask them not too. I also don't let dealer detail or even clean it when I buy a new car. Just too many chances to mess it up.

Dawn will do it. Whatever they have in the do-it-yourself wash place's soap dispenser also removed my NXT

So what I hear is dealers should NOT wash your cars?

Or should only wash the ones that want it when they want it only if they are dirty?

I think I typed that correctly

Edit because I didn't type it correctly

The second. I don't know why a dealer would wash a Zainoed car. Does it not look clean enough?

happened to me too!

Brought my 8 in for 3K oil change... exterior was spotless...not only did they wash it leaving ultra white water spots...looked like water softener residue, but they used the wrong oil...glad it wasn't my usual dealership.

Don't Zainoed cars get dirty?

Maybe it's just the thread that I'm confused about..

Surely if you ask for you car NOT to be washed...most dealers would be glad to not do it.

My car is ALWAYS clean (except when it's raining) especially when I take it to the dealer. The last time I went, the guy who washes the cars asked me If I wanted mine washed, and I said " does it LOOK like it needs to be washed?" So he didn't.

I usually tell the service advisor to make sure they DON'T wash it. Who knows how they do it, machine, or hand wash with a rag that may have been dropped on the ground and what kind of soap? No, no, no dealer washes for my car.

They should use the tokens as credit on your next service.

I'm just trying the get the jist of this. If you have every recieved a survey from Mazda one of the questions is "was you car returned to you cleaner than you dropped it off?" Some dealers have tried to gain an advantage by adding a wash bay or hiring a person to wash the car. Now you MUST admit that most (maybe all) of the members here are a little more **** than the average car owner which is hard to deal with sometimes.

I gave tokens out for awhile until a Miata owner came in and insisted that since she forgot to turn her radio off and the car wash ripped the antenna off I should pay for it.(no more tokens)

Then you hire a person and the sit and wait for someone that wants a wash.....sit and wait....sit and wait.

It just seems like there is no way to get it right sometimes.

I brought it in for an oil change semi-clean, and they still washed it. I didn't mind very much but couldn't help but wonder if they used a brushless wash. I've never used or taken my car to a car wash for this very reason, like I said, I'm not mad, but can't help but wonder.

Well it seems washing non "high-end" cars in for service is more common than I thought. My last car was only at the dealer once in three years so I guess I am a little out of touch. When they had it for the oil-pan TSB and for oil changes they don’t wash it. Also after a weekend at the track it was REAL bad, especially the wheels. So many of the service oriented posts are negative I wanted to post an experience that left me happier than I usually expect.

I think you're dead-on here... your average owner of any vehicle is going to be very happy with a complimentary car wash, and I applaud the dealers that are doing this, considering Mazda is not a luxury brand. I just personally get concerned if I recently detailed my car that only bad can come from having it washed again (swirl marks, hard water spots, etc).

Exactly correct.

If/when my 8 goes to the dealer, they will be explicitly told not to wash it.

I actually considered doing this when I first bought the car, but it was so dirty that I couldn't really give the car a good going over for paint scratches etc., so I let them wash it before taking delivery. Sure enough, the car was delivered with some swirl marks, but they weren't that bad.

You would think. But seeing how everybody has it in for the dealers and this guy was finally giving them a little praise, I decided to squelch that right away!

No but seriously, the story I recounted above is true. Apparently they were using something similar to dawn and right away this forum member noticed the difference and was pissed, especially after telling them not to wash his car.

Don't Zainoed cars get dirty?
Not very much and not very quickly!

I'm glad this thread showed up. No dealer has ever washed a previous car of mine, much as I would have appreciated it. Now that I've got a well-Zainoed 8 I'll make sure to ask them not to wash it every time. If they wash it despite that request, I'll charge them $85/hour x the 10 hours I have into it + the cost of 5 layers worth of Zaino! :D
