Great news!

Now make sure to report the other a-holes so maybe nobody else has to deal with that crap.

Got my car back. They replaced all the bearings twice!

First time it still made the noise. Second time it worked!

I have the warranty work invoice if anyone is curious. Anyways, the whirrr noise in neutral is NOT NORMAL.

Also the service tech said she inspected everything herself and the clutch and flywheel are in great shape. She also said the synchos looked new, no signs of wear at all.

Not bad for 30,000 miles. 10,000 miles on royal purple and 10,000 miles on redline. I think I'm going to stick to stock transmission fluid for a while though.

Also the stock shifter sucks. After driving my car with the axial flow short shifter for so long stock feels horrible. I swapped shifters before getting warranty work done. I'm pretty sure the shifter didn't cause the problem and I didn't feel like going through any additional headaches.

Tomorrow I'm going to call MNAO and tell them the tale of 2 dealerships.

Oh, and they hand washed and waxed my car. Hasn't looked this good since fall.

Last update:

I'm a little slow but I called MNAO today and it was actually pretty pleasant talking to the customer service rep.

He said the complaint is taken very seriously and they will keep a closer eye on Best Mazda. Apparently they changed their name in the system to Performance Mazda.

He's probably going to send me a voucher for a free oil change, but the closest dealership that isn't Best Mazda/Performance Mazda is over 30 minutes away. Plus I've been using redline.

lemme see da invoice. my tranny is having some funky noise and its hard as hell to shift into reverse. I think it has a problem, and yea I changed fluids on it, in fact 4 times outa its 48K life. So im sure thats not the cause. stock shifter too.

No problem. If I have time I'll scan the parts invoice tomorrow at work.

They pretty much replaced every bearing in the transmission. The sound COMPLETELY went away. The dealership (Munday Mazda) said they have ran into this problem before. The whiiiirrr noise in every gear and reverse with the clutch engaged is a bearing problem. Changing fluids changes the pitch of the noise, but its still there.

Oh god OP, which dealership was this in Houston? I'm going to make sure to stay far far away from there ><

Edit: Best Mazda? What the hell sort of name is that? Go try Jeff Haas, my local mechanic is friendly with the service manager there, name is Keith. They're on 10 just west of the beltway.

They just changed their name to performance mazda. The only thing performance about them is how fast they void your warranty.

I've heard good things about Jeff Haas as well. Munday Mazda takes pretty good care of me so far.

Looks like I'll be using Munday Mazda if I need anything. The folks at Mazda of Clear Lake are completely inept. While I was having coil trouble they were unable to diagnose it, and insisted that I simply needed a new battery. Granted, the battery was at its end but I knew that already. I had them replace it so they could finish the diag, instead of the hassel of picking it up, doing it myself and returning it.

They gave me my car back obviously without ever test driving it and it died on the street after about 500ft. Luckily as long as I kept it under 6k it kept running so I could get it home and replace the coils myself. They broke my AC **** and said I brought it in that way. Their costs for coil replacement was completely outrageous. Oil changes cost $50 though I bet that's common.

They even took 3 tries to get an alignment right.

Things they did good: battery change + eaten terminal, free rides to and from my apartment

Its more than small things like that, some cars are even platform sharing between Mazda, Volvo, and Ford. It seems like people are taking offense in this thread, almost as if they're insulted to be compared with Volvos. I personally would love to own a V2.0 T5 C30...

Maybe others are insulted, though I didn't get that impression.

Personally, I'm flabbergasted.

An turbocharged inline 5 is nothing like a rotary anything.

I left soon after because I went in to get warranty work done. I think my pilot bearing is making a very loud whiiiirrrr noise in every gear and in nuetral. He said its probably caused from abuse and he would most likely void my warranty. He also noticed spark plugs in my cup holder(just changed them) and that changing spark plugs yourself will void the engine warranty.

Luckily he had neither my keys nor my vin and I decide to leave.
bolded to ensure you noticed it . . .

flabbergasted.

yeah, I said it.
