Dealer: "Oh, you're with the RX-8 Club..."

I called the dealer today regarding the rusty brake/hub parts (not rotors). Initially, the service manager said there's nothing on that yet (no word from Mazda, can't fix it). I mentioned that "... one of the guys on th rx-8club.com...) and he interupeted: "Oh, you're with the RX-8 Club" - almost without thinking.

I said (laughing): Oh, so corporate's warned you guys about us huh. He laughed and said "... yeah, you guys end up knowing things before we do..."

I told him what other dealers around the country are doing (per a thread posted here) and gave him a Mazda USA Customer Service Rep' to contact. He said "bring it tomorrow and let's see what we can do with it... He was nice from start (before the club discussion) to the end. But after the club reference, there was absolutely no bullshitting or blowing it off.

Membership (or knowledge) has its priveledges.

Thanks sIckRx-8 for the "knowledge" on this one!

Yup, this board is an invaluable resource. It's nice actually being informed before showing up at the dealer, it really sets the tone and they know they can't yank your chain like they seem to do to others without the info.

Maybe we should tell them upfront we're in "the club" so we can save everyone a lot of B.S. I did a lot of homework before buying my 8, which I didn't disclose to my salesman. He said a couple of obviously untrue things (like dealer holdback only applies to cars currently on the lot, not cars that have to be moved from another lot owned by the same dealer). When I finally shared with him what I knew about the price of the car, he refused to admit he hadn't been telling the truth. I think he had to save face, so he stuck to his story. It was really something.

I think if I had told him upfront I had done my homework, maybe he could have saved himself some embarassment and we could have worked out a deal. I ended up having to leave because the salesman was so committed to the tale he had weaved.

Hey maybe they will give RX8 club members discounts too. (we do!)
Im pretty sure Trussville and Rosenthal does also. Maybe we can start something where all dealers will be willing to give RX8 club members a discount.

Heritage Mazda in Tustin gives discounts to Socal Miata members. I am in the mazda contingency program so I get stuff at low prices anyways.

I don't know about all of you, but when I go to dealers for service, and i mention, say, a TSB for an issue my car has, I oftentimes get "you can't go by what is on the internet."

There was actually a time when I asked them to check the TSB, they said their wasn't any, I called the next week about getting the car in for the same problem and got, "oh yea, we've had a few come in for that issue, Acura (in my case, for the 6 speed grind) has a fix out for that."

I about wanted to kill the guy. You tell em you heard it on the net, and they blow you off. You say you didn't, and they magically seem to find the fix you're talking about.

Now I try to gently push to "please check the service bulletins" without ever mentioning anything about the internet or a club. I don't know if that has helped. I did it once back in Chicago, and they found the TSB, and here in Detroit they didn't seem to bat an eye. But I sometimes think that here, when you take your Ford in, I'm sure they get a lot of automotive people who know whats up, and they don't seem to blow you off.

Anyway, I try NOT to mention the net.

Well with the Finish Line link in the TSB thread you should be able to print them out.

Take notice that ALL tsb's do not apply to ALL cars.

I've seen customers come in with a TSB list and say "do all these"

You really need to see if the Dealer has knowledge of the problem you are having.

Of course some dealers just have no knowedge.

My dealer here in Texas has this site bookmarked right off of their Mazda Corp lan. Was kinda funny reading this forum from dealership while my car was getting serviced.

My dealer service dept head once told me I knew more about the car than he did. This comment didn't exactly instill me with loads of confidence in them, but it IS nice to be armed with info before going in.

If I were you, I would've just shouted "THE RX-8 CLUB KNOWS ABOUT YOU!" and hung up.

Called last week to make appointment for the brake tbs. Took it in monday and the service manager said he had not heard about it until i called. repalaced brake pads and shaved something? and i was off free of charge. Brakes feel better and the noise is gone for now. It has a diffrent sound when i stop now, very airplane sounding stop. Anyone else notice this after the repalcement?
