Question Cutting Plastic

Anyone know of a good knife or saw that will cut the plastic splash gard?
I don't have any knifes aside from the ones I cook with. I need to cut some stuff off the splash gard and cut the black plastic on the rear bumper.
Thanks,
-Gil

Depending on what your ultimate objective is, the cleanest cut would be with a Dremel or similar tool.

You might also consider micro saws made for model building, depending on how much you are trying to cut. You can get a little saw for about 8 bucks at model supply places like Hobby Town that are great for small detail cuts.

Still cutting the front. I'll be looking into the DIY for how to remove the rear bumper.

Front off

Anyone know what this gos to? Fog light? Right

Left

Not as hard as I thought it would be?

Befor

After

Hmmm

Or?

I'll be moding the vents on this peace of plastic

The back will be vented as well

Made my own vent screens. What do you guys think? Theyre still in the works and need more paint. It was getting late and I dont have lights except for whats out side the house but they suck. I did not have time make the cuts for the vents on the pastic under the front wheel wells.

I'm still working on the screens. They will fill all the openings in the front.

That wire you asked about sorta looks like the ambient temp sensor, if it was behind the bumper on the left side.

The mesh may be too fine, in my opinion. Airflow through a screen is complex, but 2 things that influence it are

- the percentage of "open area"

- the size of the holes

- plenty of other factors, of course (smoothness, thickness, etc)

Turbulence reduces airflow. Smaller holes generate vastly more small-scale turbulence, preventing laminar flow. To get a feel for the effects, take a 1 square foot piece of your mesh and hold at arms length out the window at highway speed.

I can't give you any hard numbers. For my screens I chose a steel mesh with openings 1/2 inch on a side. My idea was to keep the openings as large as possible while still stopping anything large enough to do damage.

Again, the issue is complex. But I choose to err on the side of caution; the oil coolers are very important for this car.

Btw, for cutting rough holes in plastic or other sheet materials, a Dremel with a spiral bit and router attachment makes quick work. And you can use it to carve a pumpkin in about 10 seconds!
