Cruise control and electronic throttle

I was driving along today with the cruise control engaged and my foot resting on the gas pedal. Now most cruise control systems directly control the gas pedal via the throttle linkage but on the RX8 that connection is absent. You can depress the accelerator some ways and nothing happens. Eventually you pass the preset throttle position and the car starts to accelerate. It just feels weird!

what's cool is that every click up or down on the cruise control, increases the car by 1 mph exactly.

Yep. There is no throttle cable. Your pedal has two Accelerator Pedal Position sensors....a main and a sub-sensor. If one fails, normal accelerator operation is maintained. If both fail, the car reverts to a fast idle so you can continue driving and get home.

Without a cable, the cruise control can't backdrive the pedal position. You get used to it.
