Cruise Control

Did you know that...

While cruising with cruise control ON, you can press the RES ACCEL button to cruise at one mile an hour faster, or press the SET COAST button to cruise at one mile an hour slower. And you can continuously press either button to change your speed accordingly. So basically hold the RES ACCEL button if you want to cruise faster or the SET COAST if you need to slow down a bit. This is a neat little feature. I don't know if this works on all cars with cruise control.

Yeah, that's pretty much how crusie control has always worked. You might have an ah-hah moment here when you take a closer look at the meanings of the buttons:

The two words on each button actually means two different functions:

RES = Resume (meaning resume the last set speed)
ACCEL = Accelerate (each click adds one mile an hour)

SET = Set (locks in your speed)
COAST = Decelerate (each click drops one mile an hour)

Has anyone had anything weird happen with theirs?

I was "resuming" coming out of a tollbooth, and it blew right through the set speed and kept on going with the throttle nearly WOT - I had to hit the brake to release it, then when I reset, all was OK - did it twice on my recent long road trip.

Stew, I had the same thing happen on a long roadtrip across the country, up a mountain road at about 3.5k rpm. All of a sudden I hit resume and the thing took off and went to about 75-80 MPH before suddenly and violently shutting off. The car jerked so hard when it happened that my friend in the passenger seat woke up.

I don't know what causes this, but I hadn't thought of it until just now.

Anyone know what happens when you push in the clutch to change gears when the cruise is engaged? Would the cruise automatically break by itself? Or would the rpm's just skyrocket because your not in a gear?

if you hit the clutch, break pedal or pull the car out of gear ( no clutch ) it'll disengage.

on my honda hx manual if you pull it out of gear it redlines the car

Unlike my last cruise control car (a 626) this one remembers the set speed even after you come to a dead stop. The other one had to be reset after the speed dropped below about 25 mph. It also has a "cancel" button that the other one didn't have.
