crappy skipping cd players

i have a 2004 BASE model rx-8 without the bose system. i play cd's because im to lazy to hook up my iphone. it skips terribly, no skip protection.... so much as the slightest bump in the road, or sidemarkers, or gravel roads. even if i hit my knee against the console it will skip.... im assuming they are all like this, but this post is just to confirm that.
if you have a stock cd player like mine does yours skip?
also, im aware of how to take the radio/cd player apart, if i wired in a new cd player and took out the old one, would the controls on the steering wheel still work?

Mine doesn't skip. Had the car 11 months. I don't typically drive on moon-like surfaces, but I've hit enough bumps and potholes that if the CD player were bad it would've skipped.

Mine never skipped so I have to assume something is wrong with yours. I've since switched to the MP3 player which doesn't skip either. Not really sure how you'd wire in a new player since the audio assembly is modular.

Mine also skips a lot and it's a Bose system. I thought that it's just the stupid NYC roads, with lots of bumps so the anti shock memory doesn't get a chance to build up, but if no one else has a problem maybe there is something wrong.

Mine skips if I breath too hard. If I drive over a penny it will skip. I'm going to see if they will replace mine under warranty because no CD player made in this century should skip as much as mine does.

Mine only skipped every now and then if I hit a good bump until I had my suspension work done. Now it skips a bit more easily, but nothing that's really annoying. I have the Bose system too. I'm figuring that the CD player just isn't all that great when it comes to skipping.

It's interesting that other's don't skip at all. I got my car in July 2003 so it's a pretty early production unit if that matters at all.

I found the stock single-CD player to skip easily over bumps. I replaced it with the stock MP3 CD player option and it almost never skips now! Only on really harsh bumps.

The car only came with a BOSE.

Sounds like you have after market.

No skipping here.

The car came with a base sound system option as well. At any rate, Bose and base use the same CD player units.

04 base.

Mine skipped. Took it in and they swapped out the unit under warranty. It sort of sucked though as they would not let me get the MP3 version. Even offered to pay the difference.

Doesn't skip anymore.

Take care,

Brian

Mine never skips either. HOWEVER- if you are using disks you burned yourself they could be more prone to skipping as opposed to "label made" ones.

Mine just started skipping this past weekend. Made me really upset.

Guess I'll definitely be getting some type of aftermarket setup and headunit (i.e. corksport or Metra kit that is being rumored around here).

The stock CD player really grinds my gears.

I have the 6 disk and it never skips. But it does sometimes etch nice circular scratches onto the surface of my disks...

I have the 6-disc and it never skips. It will however spit some of the ripped CD's back out with a CHECK CD every once in a while but I usually load the same CD back up then it plays. I'm also on the second 6-disc player - the first one totally locked up.

I have an 05 single cd and mine skips terribly, I too have been told that the mp3/6cd upgrade doesn't do it.

i wonder if mazmart would have bought it off you. their business is the selling of mazda parts. you could always contact them, and put what they give you for it towards the mp3 or 6 disc in dash.

I, too, had a Bose single cd player in my 2004 that skipped terribly. Dealer replaced it under warranty with 33k miles on the car.

I can still make it skip on bad bumps, but it's a great improvement over the original unit.

Why would cd's that you burn yourself be more prone to skipping? Is there something to do about it?
