None of us can convince you, and the horsepower number is just that - a number. Go drive the car, and if it doesn't grab you by the boo-boo, don't buy it. But it will, it will.

Drive it and you will love it. Roll the windows down as you do, because all other concerns will be going out of them. Life is great at 9000 rpm! :D

Freakin no brainer find a dealer that will let you actually drive it and you'll want to take it home.
My test drive was in post falls ID the saleman let me drive it how i wanted through some tight mountain curves very nice. That was in July or Aug. I just need to work some thing out money wise got mine 28 Feb 04. and i love it love it love it.
Whenever i see it parked while in a store and the like i can't believe it is mine. the car is amazing. If you want an impressive hp number buy a Ford cobra SVT (390hp) (wup up dee doo) and that is about all you can say about that. the RX-8 is a great car get out there and drive one.

Went to Cleveland Auto show today. A sswweetttt RX on display, but the saleman told me that their is a starting and shutdown "procedure" for the car. If I'm paying $33K for this car, why do I have to be concerend about backing the car out of the garage to wash it and be concerned about "warming it up first" in case I flood it? Sales rep told me that that little problem is an $800 fix because the spark plugs are shot when flodding occurs!
Geez, I never should have sold my 2nd gen, but got married and wifey said time for a family car, should have backed over her instead?

Preventing flooding is not hard... in my case, my wife had never driven the car before and just forgot the shut down procedure for when the car is driven very short distances. The only people who should make flooding a deal breaker are those that have to turn their car over to a valet regularly - and even then it should only take a careful warning.
One of the things people should consider when buying a car is the manufacturer's attitude... Mazda's been great on this. I'm betting the 2005 model has an ECU fix and hoping that the same changes will eventually be made in our vehicles as well... I also think that if I ever stall again I will be able to get it started myself without a tow. I suspect charging the battery may have gotten my car running, but I didn't want to do anything to the car, having had it only a few weeks.... I've got a bit more courage now.

When you get in the car, put the key in the ignition, put in neutral, turn the key to the "on" position until the car starts, remove hand from the key, release parking brake, drive to your destination.
Shutdown....make certain the car is stopped, engage parking brake, turn the key to the "off" position, remove the key.
