Recently when I started up my 8 the console display (the one that greets you with "Mazda RX-8" when you turn the key and shows the radio channel and temp and whatnot) failed to light up, it was barely visible from ambient light but there was no light in the display, all other dash illumination was fine. After I backed out the driveway it lit up and it's been fine since.

Anyone else have this issue? Loose connection somewhere? Hasn't happened again yet, but something's wonky and I'll be surprised if it doesn't become a chronic problem. Bumper-to-bumper warranty is gone so I don't want to see the stealership about it if I can help it.

 

The display plugs into the back of the radio HU.
Possible that it is just a loose connection.
Pulling the HU out is the only way to really get to it.

 

Thanks, so I'm going to have to pull out things along the center console, now I have an excuse to go ahead and buy that short shifter, may as well make it one job right?
