consequence of not bolting down a coil?

Just replacing my coils, and when removing the nut, the whole bolt sheared off....

by the looks of it, i dont think anything "bad" will happen other then it might rattle. (though just want to make sure)

It doesn't look like there would be any heat transfer to the backing plate by the way they're designed

I know with my FC, if the coil pack wasn't secured, there was a chance of the coil not working correctly. Dunno about these, but the less stuff that is very important to the car "rattling" around, the better.

This calls for duct tape.

It could shake and cause the wire to come off or get loose.

I guess you could always buy a new mounting plate. Or take the one you have out. Remove the broken stud. By the way it's welded in. And replace it with a bolt and nut.
I personally would not leave an ignition coil floating around in the engine bay.

Why not? If it's floating then there is less weight. Thats like a 5hp boost.

haha, i ended up breaking another bolt (2 out of 4 broke) and just used some zip ties to hold them in there... couldnt get it super tight, but enough that it wont come out or come lose. (the sheared bolts help hold it in there some what).

ALSO when i got to changing the plugs/wires..... the leading plug wire was DISCONNECTED!! i bet i didn't even need new coils! But the mystery now is, did it fall off or was it taken off by a crooked mechanic when i went to get my MVI

Car seems to be running pretty solid now

I had one of the bolts break on me. I removed the mounting bracket and took it to a shop where they removed the welded bolt and I added a new one...problem solved.

The rattling and vibration will break down your coils much faster.

Get back in there and tighten it somemore with a new tie wrap.
