Complaints on nhts.dot website

I was looking thru the RX8 complaints at nhts.dot and had to question this one, hope it is not one of us..........

THE DUMMY PEDAL ON THE LEFT HAS A DESIGN FLAW WHICH ENABLES HIGH HEELS TO BE TRAPPED BETWEEN THE PEDAL AND THE FLOORBOARD. MY FOOT HAS BEEN TRAPPED FORCING ME TO STALL THE CAR AND PULL OVER FIVE LANES ON THE FREEWAY AND OFF THE ROAD TO REMOVE MY FOOT. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE THAT MAZDA DOESN'T SEEM TO WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE! THIS WILL AFFECT WOMEN WHO WEAR HIGH HEELS AND DRIVE A STANDARD MAZDA RX-8.*AK

Here is another one that is very important.........

WHILE DRIVING, THE CENTER CONSOLE GETS EXTREMELY HOT. THE AREA BEHIND THE SHIFTER AND ALSO INSIDE THE CUPHOLDERS ARE EFFECTED. I LEFT MY WATCH IN THE CUPHOLDER AND WHEN I GRABBED IT WHEN I WAS GETING OUT OF THE CAR, IT WAS SCALDING HOT. MAYBE THAT WOULD BE GOOD IN THE WINTER TO KEEP MY COFFEE WARM, BUT IT IS DEFINITELY ABNORMAL.

Lots of others about flooding and rough idle, poor mpg, even one about the sunvisor.

Go here if you want to see them, enter in our car info.

I wonder if she ever figured she could just pop her foot out of her shoe?

Most of those have been discussed on this forum at length as you are probably aware. The dead pedal one is new to me. Not to say that Mazda shouldn't address this issue, but I would ask the person why she would be wearing high heel shoes while driving a car? Most women who have to walk fair distances from a transit point to their place of work or residence wear low shoes. I would think that would be even more important when driving a car. But that's just me.

Well, she could always stop wearing high heels! I really don't think it is a real issue, just for this one woman who seems to insist on wearing heels and turning her 8 into a rolling roadblock, I feel sorry for the 8, not her.

We all know that there is a fix for the center console. Different cars get hot in different areas, the trunk in my WRX used to get warm on a long trim, the rear bumper cover of the G35 coupe gets warm after a long trip, the 8's cup holders get warm after a long trip, high performance engines generate lots of heat, I'll trade a warm drink for more HP any day!

The new flashes fix the other problems, well except the sunvisor, I happen to like the sun visor, it blocks enough, but still lets light through, it is not for everybody I agree, but opinions are like sphincters.

hehe, the car getting hot thing is actually pretty bang on. I left my keys in the cupholder one day, went for a long drive. Took the keys out and it was hot, like REALLY hot..

Also the trunk gets really warm to ! (damn beer gets warm on the trip back from the beer store!) lol, legally in canada we can't keep alchohol in our backseat, have to put it in our trunk or out of reach of the driver. Hence, putting it into the trunk

Neither of these issues bother me at all..

If you notice most of these problems are on early production models and have since been addressed and corrected with TBS's.

Most women I know keep sneakers in their car and change into them when driving, then back to the heels when getting out. I suppose such a simple concept is lost on some.

And as Go48 mentioned, all the women here in downtown Chicago wear sneakers and such on the street and keep their heels in their bags. It can't be too easy trying to catch the subway/el when runnning on the platforms in heels or dealing with walking through and around traffic.

I can't say that I've tried all that hard. I was unaware that you could stall the car while it was moving. If she was still moving, why didn't she move over and then when in the emergency lane use her right foot to push down the clutch while coasting then pop it in neutral and then apply the breaks?

Heck I have problems driving in flip-flops (gets stuck on the mat creating interesting leverage issue), I noticed it right when I got in the car to start it. I immediately took them off and drove barefoot.

Ahem......

I can relate on the high-heel thing. I wear whatever shoes match my outfit for the day and sometimes they're heels. I've gotten caught on the pedal, but it wasn't such an issue that I complained about the car. I knew it was the shoe. Any why wear tennis shoes to just to drive when I walk a whopping 50 feet to my building?

For those who think we should change our shoes to drive, are you serious? We don't need to wear "special" driving shoes, nor avoid certain shoes because we drive a sports car.

But you do have to be smart enough to know when there's a car problem or a driver problem.

our car is not the only car that has the problem of overheated center console... i believe the s2k has it as well. This is a minor problem... first of all sports shouildnt even have cup holders -____- second of all if u wanted to keep ur drink from getting hot, put it in the backseat cupholders. you shouldnt be drinking and driving neways.

i put my drinks back there because they just get in the way in the front cup holders. besides, that's where my mp3 player usually lives.

I find it pathetic people expect a producer of a given product to account for users being a dumb-*** in EVERY way possible.

Nobody FORCED her to use a dead pedal. Does the driver have only one leg? Why didn't she simply reach over w/ her right foot, depress the clutch, shift, and leggo...

(shrug).

haha...well, that explains the melted packs of gummy bears that I had stored in my center console. I was wondering how the interior of the car could have gotten *that* hot with just sun exposure. Gotta keep that in mind. Fortunately, I keep my water bottle in the rear cupholder anyway.

I'm still learning the traits of the RX-8

What is the fix for the hot center console? Is it a flash?
