Colour me Cpt Obvious...but i just realized...

Our RX8s make nearly the SAME wheel HP as a Mazda 6s.

(sigh).

Yeah - I'm still bitter about the 238hp I paid for...being missing.

that's all...

And you got this info from where? You can't make those types of assumptions unless both cars were dyno'ed on the same machine under indentical conditions. If it's true, I'm not concerned about it, because the 6 is a helluva lot heavier, and it makes it's power from a large V6.

It's heavier but not by as much as I expected.

Mazda 6s Curb Weight : 3241-3311 lbs

RX8 Curb Weight: 3053 lbs

It's not an assumption...it's reality. Mazda6s' dyno 170-180whp range...

Its just another bit of evidence pointing towards Mazda's bs when it comes to how much power people pay for.

There's some math floating around that compares the 1.3L Rotary with a 3.5L v6 in terms of pumping ability and such.

200lbs is *a lot*, not 'not as much'

when you drive a 6s and the 8 back-to-back, tell me if you can't feel the weight difference

Sure, maybe it's the same HP, but it's on THE WRONG WHEELS! :D

Don't know if that helps you feel better, but it works for me.

lol wrong wheels indeed.

One thing I've noticed by doing some research - we make power over a longer duration...for instance...

Example (fictitious)MS6 - 170+whp from 5500-7000 - peak power at 180. That's a span of 1500 rpms.

My RX8 - 170+whp from 6500-8700 - peaking at 186. That's a span of 2200 rpms.

This implies my car is making the same, or more power, for longer... = quicker car.

Simple...but overlooked as I believe this is something a lot of people don't take into account when reading dyno plots; myself included. We tend to focus on peak numbers.

i havent done the math or looked at the theory but i think the area under the graph gives you an idea of the true power of a car.

geezus christ stop whining, who the hell gives a rats ***? do you race them everyday? does it matter? no, and just for the hell of it i'll tell you why you shouldn't be whining. 1. its a sportscar and will outhandle the 6 so bad its not even funny 2. the 6 has wrong wheel drive 3. most importantly it doesnt have a rotary engine.

More important than weight is weight distribution. The 6 has over 60% of its weight over the front wheels. I think Mazda should be commended and not reprimanded anyway when they make their bread and butter cars as sport as possible.

Power does not always equal sporty drive to me. Witness the Miata. The 8 is just like a bigger more practical Miata in the way it feels and drives with a far superior feeling motor.

If it did we would all buy Chrysler 300C's with a HEMI.

As it happens my fiancee has an '03 5sp MT '03 6s and I have an '04 6sp MT 8. I never dyno'd either, but annectotally there is a world of differnce in how they handle, accelerate, break, etc. It's like apples and mailboxes (apples and oranges are too similar!).

Yes, they do. And my Mazda6s will run a 14.8s bone-stock too.

That's just the way it is. It's not keeping me from trading in my Mazda6s for an RX-8 though, even after putting several thousand into the car.
