cigarette lighter
So my girlfriend took the 8 into the dealer to get some things checked out while i am away. on the long list of things that i gave them which included moisture in the tail light i also had an issue with the cigarette lighter going out when we drove it back from texas. The service guy informed here that it is probably just a fuse but that it is not under warranty and would cost $50 to fix. I was like WTF is that!!! So he is supposed to check and verify that it is the fuse and let me know. that just seems like a crock of **** that it is not under warranty any more as the car only has 15K on it and is just over 1 year old.

Yeah, that does sound like a crock. I think the warranty may in fact contain some exclusion to the effect that replacement items like fuses, light bulbs, wiper blades and the like are not covered. But jeez, checking and maybe replacing a fuse costs like what, less than one dollar and takes like what, one minute? Any decent dealer would do that just as a courtesy.
'Just curious, do you actually use the cigarette lighter to light cigarettes? Or, do you use the socket to power plug-in accessories. If you smoke, is it possible the lighter element is burned out (those cost about five dollars)? If you don't have a burned-out lighter or a blown fuse, then apparently you do indeed have a wiring problem.
In any case for the dealer to ask fifty dollars, or actually any money, to even look at this, is pure BS.

Ipod battery on the other hand is under warrranty because its built into the ipod per say.. a fuse is like a double a battery... u unplug.. and plug another in.. simple.

I don't know... bumper to bumper waranty means just that.
While my toyota was under warranty they replaced the foglamps twice as waranty work (and they were a dealership installed aftermarket item)
I think bumper to bumper should cover it, but not powertrain warrnty

Meanwhile, yeah, I probably would have changed the fuse myself because driving to the dealer would cost more in time and gas. Actually we still don't know if the original problem of WRXtoRX8's girlfriend was the fuse or not.

I once thought my cigarette lighter stopped working. Turns out that by repeatedly plugging in my radar detector the little prong down in the base of the socket got pressed down too far. I pulled it back a bit with my finger and the cigarette lighter worked fine again.

alright well got the car back this last tuesday, but I am still out of town and can't see the paper work. My gf did say they checked out the lighter and it is just a fuse so I will take care of that when I get back. still think it is stupid that they can take the time to check it but not change it for free. Unfortunately they also did not change the tail light out for the leak issue as he did not see the condensation himself, and said to bring it back when i see the build up again. This seems pretty messed up since I live in one of the driest states there is. The week before it was taken in there was moisture in the light and thankfully I was smart enough to take pictures of it but didn't have them printed before I left. I have to say as of right now I am not very satisfied with this dealership because of this light issue and the fuse issue.
