Chafed Leather Seat (Driver Side) on my 09 RX8

My RX8 is 2 weeks young, and since I am kinda short, 5'7, I've had to put my seat close to the steering wheel. But everytime I get in, I find I keep bumping/rubbing into the side support of the seat and I have successfully chafed parts of the leather off!!!! GGRRRR...

anyone experienced the same issue? anyone have solutions?

Well if the seat is ergonomically designed in such a way that a high % of owners experience the same problem, then it's something worth noting right?

And yeah, it's not me being ****, but probably butt related, cos it's my butt that keeps rubbing into the side support when I get in..

Short of having to get in uncomfortably and then sit right down, I have decided to move my seat back to get out, and then press the preset seating to bring in back to driving position every time.. no more chafing.. but damage is already done..

If you are having a problem with your leather, and it's a new, 2 week old car, I would bring it to Mazda and have them fix the problem.

Mine has a bit on the leather, but my car is an 04, so a little more use there. You can get that fixed pretty cheap if Mazda wont fix it.

Maybe you need to be more careful how you get in/out of the car

I've got the electric driver's seat in mine - I'm really in the habit of just sliding the seat back before exiting and sliding it forward after entry - much easier that way and less hassle with the seat bolsters

you are short and compact, you have more leverage than us tall fellows; you should have no issue maneuvering your body properly, seeing as i am 6 feet and gangly and have no issue whatsoever. When it comes to cars, I wish I was short like you.

Haha ya. It's like come on people. The guy who originally bought the car I am driving sold it because he didn't like the process of getting in and out of the thing. He was an old man though.

Ya the previous owner had done that to mine, hence the mud stains all over the Bose driver side door speaker. Try being obsessive compulsive with your entering/exit techniques. This should allow you to develop quick, precise, and effective skills for this matter. But you may have to get in and out three times for no reason....

Well the problem is that since I am short, my seat is pushed really close to the steering wheel, and since the steering wheel is non adjustable, it actually catches my thigh when I get in. All this adds up to is me catching the sides of the seat and chafing the leather off.

I am being more careful now, and also pushing the seat back when existing and putting it front again after getting in. But annoyed at how its scratched up already. I doubt my dealership will do jack about it, but worth asking I suppose. They'd just say I have some metal bits from my belt or pants that has caused it.

The steering wheel is absolutely adjustable. There's a lever underneath it, it's in a recess so its flush. If you look around or feel for it you'll find it.

I think he means telescopic adjustment is not there.

How tall are you? Practice makes perfect. However, do take it in, the leather shouldn't be wearing this quickly.

leather isnt weak and this is an 09.

im just wondering how often do you get in and out of the car. 20-30 times a day?

also, i think its not so much height, but weight. how much do you weigh?

and do you wear lots of leather or plastic clothing?

that's what you get when you buy a sports car. The seats are suppose to wrap around you.

They're not designed for easy access.

Renesis3SEP is looking for an 8, trade yours for his Camary.

Or move the seat back a little.

just swing in while using your left arm to hang on to the pillar. this should work. Might leave finger marks on the windshield though

I reread your post, you're not that short. I'm about your height and don't feel crammed right next wheel. You need to adjust your seat. You should be around 10" away from the wheel or u can rest your wrists on top of steering wheel. Sounds like you're sitting too close.
