CEL after oil change

so the 2nd time I start my car after an oil change to a full synth my check engine light has gone on... anyone else experience this? Is it just a matter of the ECU adjusting to the new type? Car feels perfectly normal.

yea,
what he said...
unless you left the oil filter off... changing the oil to olive oil would not through a cel....

ok well after a while after the mop pumps the olive oil into the engine and the plugs foul, it might.

but if you you used oil made for a car... you got other issuses.

yah I did fillup with gas yesterday... what would that have to do with it?... I checked to oil filter and everything seemed kosher there.

K the gas cap wasn't on really at all... I was able to just pull it off... I put it on and drove it awhile but the light still was on... will it go off by its self or will I have to have the dealer reset it?

Rommel, what year is your 8? Have you had the latest flash?

Taking it to the dealer will solve the problem under warranty anyway, it might be a leak in the gas pipes, which is common to the '04 rx8s. I had it, even though I didn't notice anything while driving except the CEL.

Start the car, drive it, shut it off. That's a drive cycle. Don't fret, if the loose gas cap was the problem the CEL will self-cancel eventually.

It takes 40 cycles (engine on then off) for the CEL to go away.

Make sure you give your gas cap 4 clicks so you know it is tight. A loose gas cap will cause the CEL.
