Every time I turn the air conditioning on, the car shakes considerably when at a stoplight, and the compressor kicks on. Anything I can do to resolve this? Same thing happened in my last car (2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse), so I know nothing is wrong.

Any ideas?

lol, thanks for the info. It's really not that bad, and with the stiff suspension it's understandable the car shakes.

How about a loss of power? I really don't notice much, while in my last car it seemed like whenever you put the air conditioning on the horsepower was cut in half.

 

Power should drop a tad if A/C on. But that's with all cars.

It is possible that it could be a mount as Oldrotor said.
I have had to have the engine mounts and trans mount changed on our first RX-8.
It was an AT. Could have the dealer look at it.
More than likely it is just normal in your case.

lots of dumb answering dumb... if your car does not have the s flash the ac shake is normal... the s flash helps a lot...

and the next ? is how do i know if i have the s flash... read the stickys and search..

^^^Yeah I already told him that it was normal. But the idle is normally rough with the Renesis so you'll feel slight vibrations in the car regardless whether you have the flash or not.

wrong. again. and you harshed him out for being stupid... with the s flash is smoothed out the idle a whole lot, most important is when the ac kicks in...

the rough idle little issue now is when the car drops back to idle while coasting to a stop...

and it could be bad motor mounts... or a loose plug wire or dirty plugs. since he has given us any info to go on... cant really guess much.

just when i think you have figured it out i get stuff like this...

I have the 's' flash and I only noticed a difference with the A/C on/off. Otherwise there is still vibration at idle. I feel the vibration start the car up, and at a stoplight.

sounds like a motor mount.
there are no 'ECU chips' for our cars.
No sense replacing the compressor if it's still working.

Motor mounts, ignition coils could improve this. With MazdaEdit or an AccessPort you could increase your idle speed so the conpressor's draw is less noticeable.

I say ignition coils because if they're not healthy, your engine may drip lower at idle than it should normally,making vibration more pronounced. Read up ignition issues anyway.

 

So I've also been having this issue with my 2005 RX-8 I picked up. I previously owned a 2004 for quite a few years and while there definitely was a bit of vibration, it was nothing quite this bad. This will rattle the entire interior of the car at a frequency that gives me enough of a headache that I'd rather sweat. This only happens when the engine goes down into the 850RPM range. Above that, everything is completely fine.

First thing I did when I got the car was install a BHR ignition. I then went and re-installed the plug wires a second time. They're properly seated, and it works great. I don't think this is the issue at all.

Second thought was the motor mounts. I've checked these about a half dozen times in the last 2 months. There isn't any play or cracks in the bushings as far as I can tell. I do have what I would consider a bit of hesitation at the 3k RPM mark though. It's just a bit jerky the instant you slam on the throttle after deceleration. My original car had this issue too so I've largely written it off. Should I swap them out for good measure?

I've considered that possibly the belt itself is an issue because I can hear a faint squealing when the A/C kicks on. Nothing like what you'd hear in a typical blown belt situation though. Could this be the AC compressor/clutch itself failing that I'm hearing?

Any ideas would be appreciated.
