car pulls left with brakes

Hi, has anyone experienced this before? I tried 'search' but didn't find anything.

1) Sometimes when I apply brakes the car pulls towards left.
2) I have also noticed that the brakes are not buttery smooth when applied around 40 mph and above. I mean the car stops just fine but its not smooth as expected from brand new brakes.

Is this normal?

Thanks,
Max.

try the search with different word combinations. It has been discussed. what you'll find is that many experience pull - the wider tires tend to exaggerate surface irregularities. Mine will pull at certain stopping points on my commute (when I get to drive it, at least). Not sure what you mean by smooth. My brakes are great (except for the low speed pull). The faster you are going and the harder you are braking the greater (grippier) they will seem.

I just got my 8 on monday and that's one of the first things I noticed. I did a search under "brakes" and "steering" and came up with the answer. From what I can tell from different posts is that is has to with the combination of tcs/dcs, type of tire, and the road you are on(grooves, waves, etc..). From what I gather it is normal I have only noticed this on certain roads and exactly the same place on those roads so I don't have any worries. Just hold onto the wheel!! :D

It could also be due to uneven wear from extreme braking when you first got the car. They tell you to take it easy on the car when you first get it, that goes for braking as well.

Roads with ruts in them tend to make the car pull left or right when breaking with the dsc on.

Turn it off, then check it out. It will not be near as bad.

i made sure i don't do any hard braking but even then it pulled toward left on normal braking. I feel it pulls towards left even in normal cruising. Need to check tyre pressure as well. I'll also check with DSC off.

mine pulls too, but usually in the same spots during my same commute to my office. i thought it was the tires gripping the road bc of their width. the roads this happens on arent really smooth ones. kinda have ridges. this also happens when i start braking while driving faster than i should. hehe. im sure u all agree, its hard to drive this car slowly! i tried explaining that to a cop once, but i dont think he understood. but come on, our 8's dont like to go 25mph do they?

I do not have TCS and DSC, but I also experience this. I thought it was weird and just let it pass since it only happens right before I fully stop; maybe around 0.5 mph

But now that I read this, I'm not alone then.

I think it's just bad road coz this only happens to me at a specific lane at the specific road I go through everyday. My Solara had weird wheelspins on that same lane too back then.

If it also pulls right under acceleration at all, then check your rear tire pressures and sizes. Either one tire is larger or one tire has a big pressure different. Pulling one way under acceleration and the other under braking usually means the limited slip differential is acting on an inappropriate tire size difference and adjusting the torque split between the rear wheels.

If it stays straight under acceleration, then it's likely a wear problem and/or a sticking caliper. The only good way to solve this is to do a brake pad replacement if it's wear. If it's a sticking caliper, then you need to pull the pads and rotors and check the caliper slide pins for free movement. Since it's pulling left, start with the left sides. It could be front or rear.

I was thinking it maybe the caliper. out of interest how much roughly would it cost to fix?

It depends. If the caliper is seized, you may need to replace it, and that would have varying costs depending on whether you go with a new caliper, a rebuilt caliper, or a used one from a partout here.

If it's just sticking, you should be able to clean and re-lubricate the pins for the cost of a couple bucks of grease.
