Is it a good idea to use a car cover on a dirty car? Wouldn't the car cover drag dirt across the paint of the car and scratch it?

How about after it rains? Is it a good idea to use the cover on the car that was rained on?

Thanks for the info.. will need to prep myself mentally for the arrival of my baby =-]

Ummmm, I think you sot of included the answers in your questions

Your concerns are sound. Always try to avoid unnecessarily rubbing anything on your car when it's dry.. Even worse if it's dirty.

Also, regardless of whether your car is dirty, rubbing most things on your car will give it scratches, some you can see, some you can't, but over time, it adds up.. Even the commonly recommended 100% terry cloth to clean cars with cause swirling. Most automotive cotton products such as towels and dusters contain rough fibers and not enough felt. Ask any car fanatic who's ever owned a black car..

If you must rub, avoid using cotton altogether. It WILL scratch. I would recommend using a microfiber towel, a high-grade sponge or sponge cloth, or a chamois to wash AND dry your vehicle.

Better yet, use the California Water Blade (but make DAMN sure your car is free of dirt/grit).. It works amazing. I dry my car in like 5 minutes with that and a chamois.

(BTW, Don't buy the knockoff called California Dry Blade, it may cost less, but it's also much smaller and cheaper quality).

That's what i'm affraid of. I don't have a garage and I'll have to park it oustide everyday. I hate to see my baby under the whether all day =-[

John, made some changes to the message above when you replied.

Anyway, best thing for you to do is keep your car cleaned and ALWAYS have a hearty wax layer protecting it from the elements. But always remember, the less contact the finish has, the longer it will last, as long as it's cleaned and waxed regularly.

Take it from me, this is from experience, I have three cars, a black honda civic, a silver audi tt and a new RX8.

speaking of that california wet blade thing.. that was my IDEA!!! i was using the window wedgy thing to dry my sister's car way before that thing came out... if the inventor of that california blade thing came from or lived in hayward california.. he stoled the idea from me... i should be living lavishly.... damnit...

oh well, life sucks, i try to make up for it by buying an RX8 =-0
even though it is rated at 238.. i'm sure an after market mod will take care of that.. just hope that won't void my warranty.
