Canadian Mazda6 pricing = hint on RX-8 pricing?
The prices of the Canadian Mazda6 have been released:
The base model will be GS, priced at $24,295. GT is priced at $28,195. GS-V6 is priced at $27,995 and the GT-V6 is priced at $31,995. (http://www.canadianautoreview.com/news.htm#mazda6 )
The GT-V6 is pretty much loaded for $31995 CAN. I think that this price point is where the RX-8 base price will start to avoid pricing overlap.
Using my multiplier/divider formula of 1.21 (see this post: http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=458) that means the US RX-8 will start at 31995/1.21 = $26442. In other words, almost exactly what the guys at SevenStock said.
I still can't believe they can make this car for $26k US, but there it is. "All signs point to yes." :D

That price covers a loaded Altima as well
Yup, pretty much what I thought. 32-33K Cdn. My goal of $40k out the door is looking possible...
You know Mazda really is getting great valued car out. The Mazda6 pricing is frankly, very reasonable. My Protege ES loaded was no comparison to the competition... It's not only features and value, but great quality.

i dunno.. wasn't the rx8 slated for a 26-32k price tag american?!
if so, i don't think the candian price tag will be so fortunate.
i remember looking at the new accord for my dad, and seeing the top of the line being something like 23k or soemthing? which turned out to like 32, bah i dunno... using my own logic, i think that it'll go from like 30-40k going from lowest to highest in terms of packages.
i honestly hope it stays at the 26-32k price range, but i just don't see it happenin IMO.

I think Honda is slightly overpriced in general in the US. At any rate, Mazda prices their cars in Canada more aggresively than Honda, in most cases. As I posted above, a Mazda car sold in Canada is ~1.21 times more expensive than the same car sold in the US (a screaming bargain considering the lousy exchange). Honda, on the other hand, can have a much higher multiplier. By the way, the Canadian prices below I am not rounding to the nearest thousand. That's how Honda sets the prices (which makes me think even more they are completely random...) For example:
Acura 3.2 TL
US: $28980
CAN: $37000
Multiplier: 1.28
Acura RSX Type S
US: $23270
CAN: $31000
Multiplier: 1.33
Honda S2000
US: $32600
CAN: $48500
Multiplier: 1.48
I can cite more examples, but it basically boils down to this: Honda sets their Canadian prices to whatever they think we'll spend. In some cases it can be outrageously expensive. Mazda, on the other hand, sets their prices by a very low multiplier, averaging from 1.14(!) to 1.31, for an average of 1.21. To me, that is a screaming bargain, and if I were CEO of Mazda, I'd make us Canuks pay more, but I'm glad we're not!

Well I got mine NEW at Wolfe Langley Mazda in Feb this yr for $33 fully loaded except NAVI, out the door for $37,000 and they threw in the $5000 Performance Package for free. (Extra set of 18" wheels, spoiler, and Rotary accent kit), also threw in the Side Strakes and Foolwell lamp at no charge.
Just a little shopping around and you need to tell them exactly what you want and how much you are willing to pay for it. MOST dealers will come down to approx same as the US price when you push them hard. Tip, go to a dealer in some remote location, never is the CITY center cuz if you don't pay top dollar some other fool will. Go somewhere where their sales numbers are low.
