Can I change to synthetic at 42,000 miles?

Hey,

I am in need of some more oil and after reading the various posts on this website I am going to try a change to synthetic.

I was just wondering if I can safely start to use this now the car has done 42,000 miles. I read on one post that synthetic is best used earlier rather than later. Is it too late for me?

Also, can I just start to top the car up with synthetic or do I need to do a full oil change so it is either running all mineral or all synthetic?

Thanks in advance!

Of course you can. You can change to synthetic at even 150,000 miles. But why would you want to?

Topping off now, topping off later, doesn't really matter. But why not wait until the oil change to synthetic and topping off after that with synthetic? Why start topping off with synthetic now?

This question has been asked many times before.

There is a small risk that changing this late in the game could cause oil leaks from swollen seals .

Don't forget you have to disconnect the oil cooler lines as you can only drain 4 quarts of oil.

We have 7 in the system.

there are drain plugs under the oil coolers

when I was at 58,000 I changed mine to royal purple but statement is right its risky might get a leak

but if it makes you feel beter mine went completely fine I did drain all the oil including the oil coolers I would suggest the same
